Didnt know these reservoirs existed till thumbing through the navionics app on my tablet. Looked at the mn dnr data and they looked to have descent walleye populations and smallies too. How is weekend traffic on these lakes? Have family in duluth for help with wyatt till hes big enough to tag along for longer periods, mite need to add these lakes to potential long weekend getaways

I can’t comment on boulder or fish, but I have fished Island a few times and done well with muskies and walleyes. It is a resevoir so water levels can fluctuate, but I found it to be a really enjoyable lake to fish. There are not many houses on it so the lake traffic isn’t too bad in my opinion. The only part I didn’t like was having to stay at a hotel instead of on the lake, but it sounds like you have that covered.

I’ve fished boulder and island a few times for walleye. They have good numbers, but average size is on the small side. I can’t comment first hand for walleye on fish lake, but it sounds like a very tough bite and not as many fish. Watch out for rocks on boulder, it’ll eat your lower unit up fast. If I only had to go to one for walleye, it would be boulder though. Plus there are virtually no houses on the lake.

I like your last statement. The trouble here at home, its hard to get away from a bunch of traffic. With limited opportunity as it is id rather not spend it in crowded space

My parents just moved back to Iowa from Duluth this winter. I visited them several times and really enjoyed Fish Lake. I tried Island and Boulder, but caught more on fish including walleyes on Fish. The walleyes were bigger too.
