Has/did anyone experience a shortage of bait or higher prices in the last year, since Big Winnie was labeled as Infested with AIS/Zebra Mussels?
Check out this post,
the Laws/Rules affecting Bait are increasingly becoming insane.
AIS & Bait Shortage on IDO & YouTube video
Thus, I am attending the Minnesota Assoc of Watershed Board “A.I.S. Symposium” in St.Paul tomorrow afternoon and the Legislative Reception following.
Half-day session focuses on partnerships between public and private sectors
There are still tickets available for the 2014 Minnesota AIS Symposium, which will bring together experts from U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the Minnesota AIS Research Center and representatives from the boat, marina and resort industries to discuss new ways the public and private sectors can work together to address this complex threat to our water resources.
The event will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, March 19, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Kelly Inn in St. Paul. The $35 fee includes lunch. Following the forum, attendees will have an opportunity to network and discuss water management issues with policymakers and other leaders from across the state and nation.
Topics will include:
•AIS Legislative Update (Panel)
•Current AIS Threats (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service)
•Designing for AIS (Water Sports Industry Association)
•An Effective Inspections Model (Colorado Parks and Wildlife)
•Update on MN AIS Research Center
•Practical Applications in AIS Prevention (Panel)
•MN DNR Update on AIS Programs and Initiatives
One of the featured speakers, Larry Meddock, Executive Director of the Water Sports Industry Association, appeared on WCCO Radio to discuss his work on changing boat design to stop the spread of AIS. Listen to that interview here.
The event is sponsored by the MCWD and Minnesota Association of Watershed Districts, in partnership with the Water Sports Industry Association, Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species Research Center and Tonka Bay Marina. RSVP today!
I’ll post a followup report following the event.
Figured this is a good way to hear some things coming up and maybe overhear what some of the Lake Association Groups are planning to try and enact more restrictive access measures.
Any comments I should ask at appropriate or inappropriate times?
