join this message board and ask about the specific lakes you are fishing. they are very helpful there.

June 4, 2013 at 2:53 am #1175394I just got back from a 6 day trip there. We set up camp on Indiana Lake and fished all the water around it as well. We caught a lot of small mouth and northern on pretty much anything we threw. Lipless cranks KVD shads, #5 mepps spinner. Heres a pic of one of the many northern caught. Have fun!

June 4, 2013 at 9:51 am #1175406Jigs and plastics will work for eyes, pike, and smallies. I would also make sure I had plenty of stuff for lindy riggin (light and easy to pack). Always a great way to catch walleyes! Bring crawlers and leeches and keep them shaded and cool as possible. Minnows will work too but can be a hassle to transport. And probably some cranks: shadraps 5 and 7, and anyothers about that same size.
June 6, 2013 at 12:32 am #1175955We leave on june 19th for 5 days, canoeing in to insula lake. Im going after walleye. Smallies and pike. I’m bringing rigging. Tackle, slip bobbers, lots of jigs, live leeches, spoons, cranks, spinnerbaits. How about footware, suggestions?
June 8, 2013 at 10:29 pm #1176537For footwear I like the Neos overshoes so you can sneaker it back in camp. I went with the superlight, but you can go with some others if you want them to hold up better with rocks.
As for Walleye in that area, I’ve heard good things about Alice, which is right by Insula. I’m not sure if you’re doing the loop through Snowbank or if you’re just going in and coming out through the numbered lakes.
Jigs with leaches are good for Walleye. Anywhere there are rapids you could drop jigs with soft plastics under them and hammer the Smallmouth with a few Walleye mixed in. With the cold spring I’d focus on those along with rocky points, etc. We’ve had the best luck with spoons for northern up there early in the year; fish your baits slow. I like X-raps as well for pike, so you can pause during your retrieve and try to trigger them with a few subtle twitches. Insula is probably your best bet for good size Pike on that route from what I’ve gathered in researching that loop.
Good luck and have fun!

I only bring a pair of standard Keens (Keen Newport Sandal).
You can walk in the water and not worry about drying out my shoes at night. The traction is good for portaging as well. I’ve got 3 years and 6 trips on my current pair. And I wear them almost exclusively in the summer.
For tackle, I always have a few daredevils, rapalas and jigs and plastics. Walleyes, pike and bass will all bite these. Don’t forget a stringer!
