Spider lake report

We spent last week on Spider lake up next to Winnie, might have been the trip from heck, but even with three days straight of wind/rain/cold weather we managed to hook a 40″ Musky off a yellow and green bright lure, she hit trolling in about 15 fow with the lure down about 7-10 foot.

Also finally found pound plus crappies in about 9-12 fow next to a narrows, they were’nt there during the day but as evening moved in, they started to hit.

Couldn’t buy a walleye, only place we didn’t try much was sunken islands and I’m wondering if they weren’t suspended around them with the miserable weather.

Used mostly jigs and tube baits for crappies and fat bodied bright lures like a DT16 and such for northerns and muskies.
Tried worm harness’s and leeches for the walleye’s also with no luck.

We did mostly trolling as it was easier hiding under the top, not quite so windy and wet.

Both of us had come down with whatever crud is going around now so we ended the trip two days early…and the sun came out…figures..:)
Nice lake, I’d definetly fish there again.

Did you stay at one of the resorts or camp? Nice to hear about the crappies coming back. It has been a while since they showed back up. We have a cabin near spider and often head over to fish it often. Congrats on the ski.

We stayed at Spider Shores resort.

I doubt we’d stay there again, the next resort down (Spider Lakes resort) looked liked a nicer set up.

You have much luck with walleyes there?

Nice lake, I think the wife and I may go back next year, Bowstring is near and I’ve been told it’s a good lake to fish also.

not sure of this spider lake your talkin about. the spider i know is between marcell and grand rapids. now bowstring….thats 15 minutes from the cabin front door. in the winter the “bow” is hit and miss. open water is ok and you can take 9 snot rockets under 22″. fun lake to fish just not enough time in a weekend to fish them all!

If it’s up 169 and them 38 to 49 yes, that’s the one, we had planed on trying bowstring weather permitting but never got there.
Partner had fished Bow several times and had a few spots he knew, weather never calmed down enough to go, seems windy days on Bow are a bit rough to fish.

    Maybe next year..:)
