Need to draft a Martini next.
So I’m guessing this kid will get a chance to make the team this season but I’ve read some people think he won’t play in the minors.

I thought they said on the draft coverage last night that he was expected to go back to the 67s in Ottawa.
This seemed kind of odd to me, not sure if the announcer misspoke. Why he wouldn’t go to Iowa if he doesn’t outright make the team I couldn’t see.
Regardless the Wild had the best center in the draft drop right into their lap. Consensus of the mock drafts I watch had him at 4 to 6 OA.

October 7, 2020 at 9:30 am #1977943I love the name Shakir Mukhamadullin. I hope he makes it to the NHL one day.
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22280October 7, 2020 at 9:49 am #1977953I like the Nick Backstrom comparison, this kid will be the perfect setup man for our shooters oh and he can score too!
Heck, the BobFather and Craig Button even threw around comparisons to Crosby along with Backstrom. Thats some lofty comparisons, but they way he is built and his size is VERY similar to those guys. He is very strong down low in his body which is going to be a huge asset for him.
He has been training hard for the last 7 months and had gotten stronger and faster but no one would know, well, because of COVID.
Very surprised he was there at 9. Some boards had him at #3 overall.CaptainMuskyPosts: 22280October 7, 2020 at 10:02 am #1977958So I’m guessing this kid will get a chance to make the team this season but I’ve read some people think he won’t play in the minors.
If he doesnt make it on the Wild, he has to go back to the 67’s because of a rule where teenagers in that league cannot play in the AHL. They either have to make the NHL club, or go back to the OHL.
October 7, 2020 at 10:08 am #1977959based on our Center crop, I would think he’s got a good chance to make the team…but they just won’t give him a slot, he’ll need to earn it.

Agreed 100%. He wont play here unless hes earned it. No sense in rushing him along, but a line with Fiala and Kaprisov they would never give up the puck. Each of them are so strong with the puck. Things looking up!
Interested to watch the draft today to see where my buddy’s kid goes from Andover. Im guessing somewhere in the mid 3rd round, but who knows. Excited for him!RipjiggenPosts: 11447October 7, 2020 at 10:21 am #1977965<div class=”d4p-bbt-quote-title”>mplspug wrote:</div>

Chance yes but with no current leagues starting in North America as of yet I think some teams are going to have to navigate a possibly odd situation this year by sending kids back or keeping them.
This was one of the reasons some Russians jumped up in the first round late as they have been playing for a bit now over there. I mean the NHL hasn’t really even announced there plan as of yet.
Currently they have 4 centers one of which I thought would have been bought out by now.October 7, 2020 at 10:23 am #1977966The Wild will get a really good player in the 2nd round, there’s some stud defenseman and a few centers that could sink to them. You’ll likely start to see some trades for existing players today too!

Trade alert! Murray to Ottawa. That takes one potential goalie option out for the Wild. OR DOES IT? There was talk about swinging some sort of 3 team deal to get Fleury. This may be smoke in mirrors for Ottawa OR they could actually think they could be good soon. Murray is young at only 26 but is hurt so often.

The Russian (Marat Khusnutdinov) they drafted with the 1st of these picks is a Center who most expected to go in the 1st round…Bonino is a big help with our short term center problem.
RipjiggenPosts: 11447October 7, 2020 at 11:40 am #1977995Kunin and 101st pick for bonino and 2 picks
Yes…older and slower
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22280October 7, 2020 at 11:48 am #1977999I like these moves a lot. Yeah, Bonino is older, but he has cup cred and only 1 year left under contract so that will pave the way for other moves and honestly, he could be a trade deadline deal to a team on a Cup run assuming the Wild arent there.
There is going to be a lot of turnover after this team.
$32MM in cap space after this year with 6 UFAs and 4 RFAs. Fiala RFA, Foligno UFA, Ek RFA and KK97 RFA are notables of those and they will likely get extended soon.October 7, 2020 at 11:55 am #1978005I like these moves a lot. THIS EXACTLY, he’ll return a high round pick at the trade deadline and he’s a solid center for this season while we groom our future centers…Kunin really didn’t show us much in his time here and he’ll need to sign a contract this season so you’de be locked into him longer…The Wild has a ton of capspace coming off the books NEXT year now, this will be needed for Fiala and Kaprizov extensions but also the Free Agent pool is much better next year as well…
I’m really liking the moves BillyG has made, he’s thinking a few years down the road for everything to start setting up to contend. He won’t admit it to the fans, but they are obviously rebuilding this team as much as they can with current NTC contracts (Zucarello, Parise and Suter)
RipjiggenPosts: 11447October 7, 2020 at 11:56 am #1978007Yay Cup Cred. That is only worth something if you are a rising cup potential team.

Or if you have younger players who can absorb what it takes to win it all. Culture change is needed….
RipjiggenPosts: 11447October 7, 2020 at 12:06 pm #1978012Let’s be fair to Luke he has not even played a full season yet in the NHL. I agree culture change is needed but don’t think Luke was the culture problem.
October 7, 2020 at 12:07 pm #1978013Took a big defenseman with their next pick. Described as nasty.

Pretty difficult to think about the trade deadline next season if that is his plan. Considering their is not a laid out plan on how the season is going to work and more than likely those teams are going to be up against the cap that is frozen for the foreseeable future.

He wasnt traded because of being a culture problem at all. He was named Captain of the US National Team and Wisconsin as a Sophomore. He is a great kid. This move was more about setting up something else versus dumping him as being a problem. Luke hasnt shown much, due to injury and I really had high hopes for him. I wouldnt be shocked if Greenway is sent packing too even though I really expected him to amount to something. He has the skills just not the drive to do anything with consistency.

When you trade for a player at the deadline you only take on the remainder of their salary so that shouldnt be much trouble for teams to slide them in.
It will be interesting to see how this season goes. IDK how they could do a full 82 game schedule if they start January 1. They have said they want to be close to a normal off-season because in the midst of the 2021-2022 season there is the winter olympics.CaptainMuskyPosts: 22280October 7, 2020 at 12:27 pm #1978019Took a big defenseman with their next pick. This is what his skills coach had to say about him:
““He’s one guy you don’t want to urine off. He’s a throwback,” Cornacchia said. “That part of the game has changed. And Ryan has the electric offensive part of the game but he’s able to open you up and give you a Scott Stevens type of hit, or come to the defence of his teammates.””CaptainMuskyPosts: 22280October 7, 2020 at 12:32 pm #1978022Are we going to actually maybe potentially be good this year?
“Winners
1. Minnesota WildPick: 9. Marco Rossi
My ranking: No. 3 (change: -6)If you’ve followed my draft coverage over the last couple of years, this ranking should come as no surprise to you. Rossi is ready to play in the NHL, he’s a centre, he’s the most well-rounded forward in the draft (maybe even including Lafreniere), he’s the best defensive forward in the draft, and he’s one of the most driven kids I’ve ever dealt with in seven years covering the draft. When he’s got the puck on his stick, he makes it nearly impossible for opposing defenders to take it off of him. When he doesn’t have the puck on his stick, he’s as gifted as any player in the draft at lifting it off the other guys and then making a play. And while I don’t think he’ll put up the counting stats offensively that players like Raymond and Perfetti do, his impact on the game could be higher on the whole.”

We can argue whether it’s a good plan or bad plan – but it has to be his plan, right? I mean he’s aquired 3 players and all of them are established players on expiring contracts. Flipping them at the deadline for picks is the only thing that’s makes any sense to me. Meaning next year is a tank job.
The other side of the Kunin trade is he would have been exposed to Seattle in the xpac draft, assuming they go 8+1.
Based on advanced stats, kunin has been a replacement level player.
Nashville’s beat writer described Bonino as “their best trade asset”.RipjiggenPosts: 11447October 7, 2020 at 1:05 pm #1978029<div class=”d4p-bbt-quote-title”>Ripjiggen wrote:</div>

CaptainMuskyPosts: 22280October 7, 2020 at 2:40 pm #1978050Wild extended qualifying offers to all players with the exception of Mat Robson. Kind of surprising that they didnt extend one to him. Makes me wondering if BG is going to put Kahkonnen in Iowa or hes working on a different path at goalie. They did extend an offer to Hunter Jones who is expected to be in Iowa and had a very good year last year.
RipjiggenPosts: 11447October 7, 2020 at 2:43 pm #1978055According to what he said on kfan yesterday the plan was to sign a veteran and to have Kahko play in iowa
