Hopefully Billy G can keep fleecing all these GM’s with these historic trades.

They saved more cap-hit and get a 5th round pick (we give up a 7th rounder) trading him vs buying him out…they all can’t be headline grabbing trades, but I would say this helps us rather than hurts us. Dubs has been a headcase the past few years and spaces out alot on the ice and lets in soft goals.

Time to move on and see what we have in Kappo, make a long term goalie decision in net a year or two down the road. I do think they try to get a veteran cup winning goalie via trade or cheap fa for a year or 2 contract, somebody like a Fleury/Crawford/Holtby to teach our young goalies the ropes and how to prepare like a champion.

So basically the same thing the Wild did for Bjugstad. Yeah I get it they are not all headline moves. Actually hoping their is actually head line move.
I am not saying Dubnyk should be in there long term plans but saving 2mill and change for this season isn’t accomplishing much at this point except moving on. Well I guess technically it is paying for Carson Soucy first year of his extension.
So which is it you want to see Kappo or another FA veteran. Can’t really do both. Unless they plan on carrying 3 goalies.

I’m guessing the Wild wants to give Kaapo 40-50 games next season (if we have a full 82 game season) to see if he’s worth investing longer term in and give a veteran the other games and to mentor. Stalock will be kept around as an injury backup and to be made available for the expansion draft.

They still have Kunin, Greenway and Kaapo to sign, so that will eat $4-5 million of that $12+ capspace, then it will be upto the owner to allow BillyG to spend the rest…

Don’t forget about the third goalie. The three you mentioned will each take 2.5 mill plus. Hence the reason I don’t see them doing what you explained. Don’t see how giving Kappo 50 games and paying a third goalie 2-3 million to start 20 games makes much sense considering it is more like 4-5 million when you consider you are still paying Dubnyk. I guess we will see.
Waiting for the Victor Rask buyout to pop up.

Stalock is only making $785k, i’m not sure if that’s a 1 way or 2 way deal, either way that’s not too tough for the owner/team to stomach playing in the minors…of those veteran goalies I mentioned, yes some like Fleury are expensive, but the other team would likely retain 1/2 the salary if traded like we just did. Corey Crawford would likely come much cheaper…BillyG could also just decide to just go with Kaapo and spot start Stalock, see how that plays out and make a goalie decision next year…

I believe it is one way. At this point I don’t see how they play 82 games this year without disrupting future seasons. At some point they have to get back to normal start times for their respective season. This whole off season is strange that is for sure.
At least we are not debating if Trump has Covid or not. toast

I’m excited to see who we add tomorrow, does BillyG go the safe route or roll the dice a bit?

Do you guys really think Greenway will be here more than this next year? Unless he has a big year and shows he can play well in more than 10 games a year, I don’t see the Wild keeping him around.

I dont know how they could possibly get 82 games in next season. They are targeting a return to play Jan 1 and have already said they want the season completed in the normal timeframe so not sure how they can accomplish both things with a full 82 game schedule.
If they wild go after a veteran, its going to be short term. They wouldnt be going after someone that would command a longer term deal.

He has flashes of domination when he uses his size, but those times are infrequent, I’m sure the staff have told him this and he has to prove he can play with that motor at all times. I think they sign him to a 1 year prove it deal and reward him longer term if he performs…He’s still young kid and needs to be given some time to mature…The Fornite addiction is a bit worrisome though…

Not sure at all about the Donato trade. Seems like buying high and selling low to only get an R3 pick out of a young player like Donato. He wasn’t great, but going from a roster player to an R3 pick seems a little thin to me. Granted he was a Paul Fenton acquisition so it may very well be that Gurin put him down as another Fenton swing and miss and decided to move on.

Dubnyk trade on the other hand, I get it. Free up the roster spot, get a little salary back. How many times have fans been complaining that the Wild hang on to too many aging, middle of the road players in hopes they find their form?

Going to be an interesting draft night tonight.

Donato was the biggest disappointment for me over the last couple years. You can tell he has skill with the puck but it doesn’t seem like he’s able to get to pucks and when he does, he doesn’t seem to do much with it when there’s a guy near him.

Russo and Billy G were on Kfan this morning and answered all the questions you guys just talked about. Definitely not playing an 82 game season according to Russo. Sounding more like 40-50 games. Donato was caught in a numbers game as he needs to play top six minutes in order to be affective. Unfortunately the signing of zuccarello kind of took his spot. Billy wanted to give him a fresh start and will probably be affective in SJ playing in a top 6 role. He just is not a bottom six wing as defense is not his game.
They are definitely getting another goalie and Bill says the plan is to have Kappo play another year in the minors. Unfortunately this may leave him exposed in the expansion draft.
Greenway and Billy G had a long talk at the end of the season and was flat told that he needs to prepare in the off season and come ready to play every night. Bill basically told him this is your profession now so if you want to keep doing this for your job you need to prepare like it is your job.
Russo said they are not in a hurry to trade Dumba. He is going to wait until he gets what he is asking for. Might be in the off season at the deadline or even next year.
He was asked if he would make a draft position trade with Ottawa. Billy basically said he wouldn’t do any deal with that GM even if he was offering the world. Fell just short of calling him an A-hole. Good stuff

    Koivu 2.0

Not anything like Koivu. He averaged 2 pts a game in juniors. Lundell is like Koivu.
I wouldn’t have minded Perfetti either.

I’m curious if BillyG tries to cash in his Dumba chip and get back somewhere in the next 10 picks or so…After that I dont think the value is there…

Wow. I do not think Rossi was going to be there at 9. Terrific pick for the Wild.

Nice. We get a much needed center man and one that looked pretty damn good in the ohl last season.

Little guy who is a tick above average as a skater. At least thats what the scout was saying in the Athletic. I dunno, he will likely be fun to watch.

I like the Nick Backstrom comparison, this kid will be the perfect setup man for our shooters oh and he can score too!

Didn’t realize Max Domi was traded to Columbus today.

Rossi is the guy I was hoping would fall to then at #9. Pure center, produces, kills penalties, and plays a 200′ game. See a lot of positive talk about his compete level and work ethic as well which is an underrated quality in prospects. Guerin seems to really value character and work ethic so I’m sure that factored in to taking Rossi over Perfetti.

Didn’t realize Max Domi was traded to Columbus today.

Didn’t take much to get him either!

Here’s a couple of really cool video segments I found about Marco Rossi…I read an article this morning on the Athletic that said they felt he was the best pick in the 1st round.
