I needed it. Our AC is acting up.

kudos to the NHL for pulling this tourney off! They did a hell of a job! It was a needed distraction! Now to get through the lul after the draft and FA is over with and we’re waiting to see what our new team look like on the ice!
September 29, 2020 at 8:39 am #1975955Jeez Dutch, we haven’t even wet the hulls of the boats for the parade and you are already talking about the next season!
September 29, 2020 at 9:00 am #1975964Good job by Tampa not letting the Team Rustlers drag it out. Point is just so awesome, he had a little spin move in the 2nd period where he was going off on a change and kind of got pinched against the bench side, so he does a spin-o-rama to get clear to dump the puck. Little move just says everything about how smart and skilled he is to pull that off rather than make a bad play and risk a NZ turnover.
Hedman, Stamkos, Kucherov, etc, etc. What talent. Every bit the team I hope the Wild can build someday.
Was just talking to one of my fellow season ticket holders about the new season and when might we be able to go back to games. Can’t see it this season until at least late in the season and then very small numbers which would feel really weird to me and not very enjoyable.
September 29, 2020 at 9:40 am #1975975It will be interesting to see how this Bolts team looks year after year with all of the huge contracts (with NTC’s) they currently have and future stars who will command huge contracts over the next few years too… I read somewhere Point’s arbitration value in a few years will be something like $10+ million yikes…
Obviously a great problem to have and they now have at least 1 cup in their “window”
If BillyG can figure out a way to move Zucarello this offseason, our capspace after this year looks really good (with obvious big raises for Fiala and Kaprizov if warranted) I don’t see how Sturm/Ek/Kunin/Greenway/Foligno can ask for big raises, they don’t have the comparables to warrant it…small bridge deals are in their future. Even though I love him as a player, Foligno likely wants a pay raise putting him near $3.5-$4 million per season, he’s just not worth that for a 3rd, more likely 4th line player…We have lots of young wingers on rookie contacts needing spots the next few years…
I’m not factoring in any Parise trade because if he’s traded we’re going to need to take back a bad contract in return (Ladd example)
RipjiggenPosts: 11447September 30, 2020 at 6:49 pm #1976391I don’t think anyone has been enjoying the last few days more than Kucherov. He’s tipped a few back and I’ve never seen that side of him being he’s kind of reserved.
October 1, 2020 at 2:57 pm #1976623few nuggets I read today, seems Nashville has said ALL of their centers are available for trade to reduce their cap hit next season. Ryan Johanson is 28yrs old a with 5 year deal and Matt Duchense is 29 yrs old with 6 years left on his deal, both are $8 million cap hits, Kyle Turris has been available forever but his $6 million for the next 4 years is a huge anchor…
I’ve always liked Duchense because he has speed, while Johansen has the size to not get knocked off the puck easily.. both would be great setup guys on the Wild’s #1 line and Powerplay unit…
I’m not exactly sure what the Wild could offer them (besides 1st round picks) as they likely wouldn’t want Dumba because they already have a ton of money tied up in Josi and Ellis on Defense, but here’s an rare opportunity to get a #1 Center….
RipjiggenPosts: 11447October 1, 2020 at 3:28 pm #1976631Can Nashville take a 6 million defensemen is the question. They already have Josi Ellis Ekholm. Unless you were thinking a different angle of getting one of those defensemen. Guessing that would involve future picks or assets.

I mentioned that, I’m guessing it would need to be something like Boldy, 1 of next year’s 1st rounders and maybe a throw in like Donato or Greenway…Lots of articles out there on how the asking price for top players has gone down due to the need for teams to cut salary with the flat cap the next 2 years…
RipjiggenPosts: 11447October 1, 2020 at 3:49 pm #1976641Sorry I was reading and working at same time. be interesting to see who Winnipeg moves as well. Laine name is getting tossed around as well. Probably a good year to be terrible and lots of cap space like Detroit.

I sure hope Billy G doesn’t give up any decent assets for one of the Preds’ centers. Maayyybe Duchene (there’s no s in Duchene) – maybe.
Duchene and Joey are 2 big names because they were high draft picks and both are overrated and overpaid. Johansen hasn’t cracked 20 goals in 5 years at Nashville and Duchene’s career production is about in line with Granlund his last 3 years with the Wild. Neither are above average defensively either. Eric Staal had more goals and points than both of them last season and everyone said he had a bad year! Can’t pull the “PP TIME” or “BAD LINEMATES” cries for those guys either.
Turris is a buyout candidate… got scratched a number of games for NASH last year.
October 1, 2020 at 4:40 pm #1976668Johansen is a pass first guy, so I dont see him ever getting more than 20 goals and he never really had a shooter type of wing (Forsberg and Ardvidson arent really those types of wings) but Fiala and Kaprizov are.
Again i’m just spitballing…
No way Turris gets bought out with 4 more years on his deal, that is just a cap killer contract they are going to have go eat for at least a few more years.
The San Jose Sharks rumors about getting BOTH Dubnyk and Donato sound interesting…I didnt see what they would offer back but they have a few good center prospects in their system.
October 1, 2020 at 4:52 pm #1976676Lots of Wild rumors. Wild have apparently contacted Dustin Byfuglien to ask about his willingness to play for the Wild. Interesting.
Sharks possibly interested in a Dubnyk / Donato combo deal. Didn’t see any mention of what they’d offer in trade however.

October 2, 2020 at 8:37 am #1976794TSN is reporting the Donato & Dubnyk deal to San Jose is close to completion.
Sounds like a High Draft pick (Sharks have the last pick in the 1st round and two 2nd round picks) or a top Prospect would be coming back to MN, so i’m guessing the Wild eats some of the Dubnyk/Donato contract(s)

CaptainMuskyPosts: 22284October 2, 2020 at 8:49 am #1976803There is also increased chatter in a deal with Vegas as well with Dubnyk and the Flower coming back in the deal. Its been rumored that Dumba would be part of this deal.
SJ is intriguing and I just have this feeling that Donato is gone and he will explode wherever he ends up. The guy puts up goals in such few minutes each game and no PP time. He isnt a very good skater however. I just dont see much room for him here with some of the young pieces in the pipeline and he needs to grow his game.
IDK if any of those centers from NASH intrigue me. Perhaps Duchene more so than anyone else.
Big Buff would be a nice addition on the back end but you have to be 100% sure his head and heart are in it. A shortened season may help with that.October 5, 2020 at 10:25 am #1977407The Wild just traded Donato for Pittsburgh’s 3rd round pick in 2021….all signs point to Dubnyk getting traded today as well…
Wow, we really need the Penguins to tank next year…

I wonder what the return would be to MN in a Dubnyk deal?

Buff is not playing. If you thought he was big before you should see him now.

I’m not sure it would be better than a conditional 5th round pick (based upon # of games he plays)…unless we retain some of it, they would be taking on Dubnyk’s full $4.33 cap hit, usually teams pay the other team just for taking on the cap hit, especially with a hard cap the next 2 years…I just see Dubnyk’s salary going towards Fiala’s extension anyways vs picking somebody up in FA…Unless we see Askarov and the 2 D go very early, I get the feeling BillyG wants to move up ahead of Buffalo and get to the 6 or 7 slot in the draft to grab Rossi, Raymond or Holtz if they are still there…Center and a Pure snipers are at the top of his want list. I think Holtz is the most underrated player in the top 10, the kid can score goals, something we absolutely need more of. Raymond has all of the tools to be an all-around offensive star too…
Anton Lundell still feels like the absolute safe need pick, it would be totally in the Wild’s previous known draft comfort level to pick him, I guess we’ll see if BillyG wants to be a gambler or stay safe…
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22284October 5, 2020 at 1:34 pm #1977476I agree on Holtz, I was watching some highlight vids of him and lordy can he fire the puck. Isnt the swiftest of skaters, but not overly bad either.
RipjiggenPosts: 11447October 5, 2020 at 5:16 pm #1977542And Doooobs is now a shark as well as we pay half his salary to be out west playing for the sharks. Wish him and his family well, as he was a stand up guy.
Wild now at 12.6 mill under the cap.RipjiggenPosts: 11447October 5, 2020 at 5:39 pm #1977551<div class=”d4p-bbt-quote-title”>CaptainMusky wrote:</div>

If I am not mistaken Dubnyk’s contract was up after this year and Fiala is locked in at 3 mill this year so not sure Dubnyks money had anything to do with Fiala’s extension money.
October 5, 2020 at 5:54 pm #1977557I was merely saying Dubs cap-hit savings (Before we found out the Wild was paying half) would just get added into Fiala’s extension next year and beyond vs being put towards signing a FA with his cap-hit.

I gotcha.

They saved more cap-hit and get a 5th round pick (we give up a 7th rounder) trading him vs buying him out…they all can’t be headline grabbing trades, but I would say this helps us rather than hurts us. Dubs has been a headcase the past few years and spaces out alot on the ice and lets in soft goals.
Time to move on and see what we have in Kappo, make a long term goalie decision in net a year or two down the road. I do think they try to get a veteran cup winning goalie via trade or cheap fa for a year or 2 contract, somebody like a Fleury/Crawford/Holtby to teach our young goalies the ropes and how to prepare like a champion.
October 5, 2020 at 6:42 pm #1977573The rumor of Dumba to Vegas for Fleury and Cody Glass might pickup more steam now, I think Vegas would prefer signing Peterangelo, but Dumba would be a great backup plan for them if he chooses to go elsewhere…
