No argument from me Dutch! Thats why I said IF he turns out be Wild’s Crosby. I’m being cautiously optimistic about this entire team. I’ve been sold the hope of Minnesota sports far too often to get too excited too early. There’s always a missed field goal, a inning ending double play at the end of the game or a goalie gets hurt in warm ups that brings on the melt down! lol

So now Santa Clara has banned all gatherings of large numbers of people starting March 11th. Soo, the sharks next home game is March 19th. What do they do? What is next for other teams as this covid-19 spreads?
Thinking ahead for the Wild provided they can stay within 1 pt of a playoff spot before Thursday, they have a good chance to keep the roll going. Would desperately want the #1 WC spot even though I would hate to watch those late games.

Mayhew sent back down to Iowa. He didn’t do much to make his case to stay up here. That’s too bad I was pulling for him to make a showing and maybe stick around. Wonder if he will get another look next year or if Billy G has seen enough? I’m guessing this was his chance.

Considering his age, probably the latter. But he has another year left, so he’ll at least get a chance through injuries?

Through injuries might be the only way. This is going to be a completely different Wild team next year there won’t be a spot for him. He could be a chip to throw in on a trade?

I felt the same way. I thought he earned a call up weeks ago but he just didn’t do anything while he was up here. Too bad.

Does his 5’7″ 160# frame hinder him?

Doesnt appear to, but I think he just isnt quite cerebral enough for the NHL game. He was given plenty of opportunity on PP and on top lines, but didnt do hardly anything. You could notice him out there, but just not making plays. Defensively he was pretty bad too.
The Wild had the same thing last year with O’REilly. I forget where he went, but he hasnt seen NHL ice there either.

Fiala has been something to watch! If he turns out to be the Wild’s Crosby what ever else Fenton did will be forgotten he will always be known as the GM who brought Fiala to the Wild.

What shouldn’t be forgotten was that the rest of the hockey universe thought the Wild should have gotten another player besides Granlund in that trade. What turned out to be a good deal, should have been even better for the Wild. Even the blind squirrel gets a nut once in a while.

Now some are going to say Fenton was some kind of unappreciated talent savant genius. Well I’ve got two words that blow that theory to hell. Victor Rask.

His size may have something to do with it. I don’t recall seeing him get knocked off the puck easily but given that size makes it more difficult to play in the NHL. I imagine the pressure got to him more than anything. It was clearly his chance to make his mark. Being put on the first and second line shined the spot light directly on him. He was basically playing for the life of his career and I’m sure he was gripping that stick pretty tight.

Thirteen games is not a very big sample size really and I think he could be a 3 or 4th line grinder and chip in some goals along the way on this or some other team. I hope he gets another chance under a little less pressure if not here somewhere else perhaps.

This is just, crazy. Listening to PA this morning, interviewing Stalock because he was the only one available and the building was empty.

Yeah, I really am struggling with some of the decisions surrounding this, but I guess you dont want to be the odd man out when everyone else has canceled/suspended games, tourneys whatever.
I am glad that the NHL at least left it open that they would resume play at some point so that may mean the Wild arent done, but if they were to just stop the season as it is and then pick up for playoffs they are out.

Didn’t the cup finals go into July years ago during the shortened lockout season? It was chicago and boston in the finals and I remember it ending in early July.

Once the NBA shut the doors I figured this was coming. MLB suspended spring training games as well I guess. Lets hope they get back up and running in a couple weeks at the most. If it goes beyond 2 weeks we are probably looking at starting the playoffs as the teams stand now.

Yeah, this whole thing really blows. Its an exciting time of the year with the playoffs, but I guess we can binge watch Cheers and Arrested Development, so there is a bright side.

Yep, going to be very boring. NCAA tournament canceled too. I see the Twins preseason game was canceled today, MLB must have pulled the plug as well.

What are the sports networks going to talk about? You can only rehash, rehashed, rehash so long before the only thing to discuss is that nothing’s happening anywhere.

Back to the NHL, what would they do with the draft if the season is on hold? Use the present records to determine draft order?

May you live in interesting times.

MLB canceled the remaining spring training games and has pushed Opening Day back two weeks so far.

I’m thinking there’s going to be a surge in newborn babies in December/January range.

Good news- If the NHL decides to start the playoffs immediately after this “pause” they will likely use a points/game calculation instead of using current WC standings.

Bad news- Wild still wouldn’t be in the playoffs.

One “expert” says he’d expect the NHL to play a few games and then jump right into the playoffs immediately after. Makes an extremely tight race even tighter. Wild end the season on a four game roadtrip in St. Louis, New York, Washington, and Nashville. Yikes.

And some of those teams St. Louis and Washington for sure would have been resting some of their top players under normal circumstances. Now they will be playing everybody to get the timing and rhythm back after a long layoff.
This pause is going to help some teams and hurt some teams and the Wild are on the hurt side of things.

Plus there always will be that “what if”.

    go grandma go

I couldn’t read the article because USA Today wanted me to turn my ad blocker off which I won’t do but I got the gist of great granny lacing up her skates! Good for her! I was trying to come up with a reason to revive this thread but nothing going on in the hockey or sports world.

I’m guessing given the forecast of how all this is going to hockey is dead this year. Maybe take the top two teams from each conference and go straight to a Stanley Cup final round?

Love seeing those kind of stories. There is an old dude up in Duluth, that is well into his 90’s. Its awesome to see these active youngsters.
