I doubt there’s any bad feelings at all between BillyG and Parise… Apparently they had several talks before the deadline so Parise was well aware of the situation as he lifted his NTC. I’m also sure Parise knows that Lamarello backed out of the deal last minute, so what could BillyG do?

Once this all became public then it’s a typical PR spin that everyone is happy it didn’t go through and that all parties are happy with who they have and look to move forward…

BillyG wants to get out of having Parise locked in a top 6 role for the next 6 years…not a super big deal right now as Parise can still justify his position, but in a few years it will be a big deal as it will likely hold this team and young top6 players back…

This was always understood back when they originally signed the mega deals, Fletcher always knew he wouldn’t last their entire contracts as the Wild’s GM (rarely do you see GM’s last that long with a franchise, the only way it could be possible is if they won several cups) so he took the short term win and probably extended his GM job several years knowing he wouldn’t be there when the painful years of those deals started killing the franchise…

BillyG inherited the mess and is trying to do all he can to get out of it, this will most likely require some painful short term decisions (buyouts & retaining large chunks of salary in trades) but will ultimately be for the greater good of the franchise long term.

Absolutely this. I doubt this deal is dead, its just dead for now. Third times the charm they say. There’s been two kicks at the Parise can.
Anyone see the look on Evason’s face when Koivu got his second goal last night? He looked pissed. LOL
IDK what you guys think of this interim guy, but something about him rubs me the wrong way. Sort of reminds me of Bob Hartley.

I think he knows he’s just a short term solution, so he honestly looks like a guy who doesn’t give a crap what happens either way…a few games ago the TV cameras showed him during an end of the game timeout and he didn’t say a single word to the players during the entire timeout, that’s what sealed it for me…

To me that looked like the players on the ice were not taking any ideas from the coach. They were all gathered around each other and never maid eye contact with him.

Regardless of who talked to who,or who didn’t talk to who, it goes to show the lack of communication on the ice between the bench and the players.

A good coach would assert himself into that conversation, he looked like a deer in headlights…

Agreed- however BB is a good coach and they pulled the same BS on him, maybe not as openly but just as effectively. And correct me if I am wrong but the one who looked like ha was doing all the talking was Parise.

Nobody knows for sure what is going on there inside that locker room, but I can’t believe that BG didn’t see the same thing that night.
Lack of bench control from the Interim NHL-(not here long) Head coach, and lack of respect from the players.

If i was Zac and work that a hard as player, like he does night in and night out. I would be Mad as hell to, when my slow ass team blows almost ever game were leading in and lose 70+ % of overtime games.

    Fixed that for you.

Another option most have forgotten about is the potential to sign Mikhail Grigorenko as a free agent. He would be a good #2 center option and wouldn’t likely cost a ton. It would also be nice for Kaprizov to have a former Russian teammate with him…

If CSKA somehow gets upset in their playoffs you might see these guys signed (unless it would then make Kaprizov need to be protected in the xpac draft)

They would be protected because they would still be on their ELC regardless if they sign this year already and burn a year for a few games.

good to know about Kaprizov, Grigo already had a ELC so he would need to be protected. If it becomes an option it might be a good motivation tool for Kaprizov to sign, gets him a year away from signing a bigger $$ deal.

Yeah, that’s right, I forgot the Grigorenko spend what 5 seasons in the NHL. He is a big center, not sure about his skating but it would be comfortable for Kaprisov to play with someone he is familiar with. I know Guerin was asked about a package deal, and he basically toed the company line on that because they cannot really talk about that. I believe both players have the same agent as well. This was after his visit to see Kaprisov.

Wild drop 7 on a horrible Red Wing team last night. Multi point night for several guys. Fiala looking like the most skilled player on the ice with that filthy back hander. Would have been nice to see Mayhew get on the board. If they let him hang around he’s going to break out he seems to be playing well. Hopefully they saved some for the Blue Jackets tonight they are going to need it.

Mayhew definitely looks like he has a chance to contribute. A few games under his belt and he may be rewarded. Galchenyuk has actually been playing pretty well. Fiala, what an absolute beast. Man, that kid is showing it right now.
Fitting that Granlund scores with .1 second left for Preds to force OT and then score the OT winner so Wild dont gain any ground.

Right? Grandlund has done nearly nothing for the Preds all season and then does this to keep the Wild at bay! Seen Coyle got one last night as well. He must be gearing up to be a beast again in the playoffs this year for the Bruins.

Too bad we can’t play the Blue Jackets and RedWings every other night for the rest of the season…man they are bad teams (Bluejackets more due to injuries)

At least the Wild are making the most out of playing the bad and beat up teams. Caps on Sunday might be a different outcome.

You have to hand it to them, they are playing well.

Looking back now I don’t think you would reverse any Fenton Trades.

The key is going to be if Fiala can keep this up now that the secret is out and he is going to be game planned against meaning he’s going to become a hit first target. And can he stay healthy he’s listed at 5’10 and 193 so not exactly a guy built to withstand a constant beating. Hopefully he figures out how to avoid being board bumper.

Looking back now, I would’ve expected much more. They, with exception of Fiala, didn’t help this club in any way.

They seem to be playing pretty well in spite of those crippling Parise trade talks.

How about Kreider breaking his foot last night! Just after signing his big contract. No timetable on coming back but a fractured foot doesn’t sound like any time soon. Bad juju for the Rangers.

Good couple of wins for the Wild. I’d take Fiala over Grandlund any day.

The problem is that what turned out to be a good deal should have been even better. There was a large consensus that the Wild should have gotten a prospect or pick as part of that deal. Another blown opportunity to really get ahead, we could have come out like bandits.

Trading No Goal Chuck was a good deal no matter who we got for him because he simply would not play here. Even trading him for a sack of pucks and some used goalie equipment would have been a deal just to get his salary off the books because he was useless.

Interesting article on Kaprisov here. I’d you believe in statistics as a predictor of 1 player’s future performance, then the future looks great.

Flames, Preds, and the Jets all lose in regulation tonight. What a great few nights its been for the Wilds playoff chances. I’m a basketball guy at heart but I’ll gladly hop on the bandwagon if the Wild give me a shot this time of the year.

Don’t worry, I dont know much for hockey analytics so I’ll be more of a listener than an obnoxious poster on this thread waytogo

The run of playing bad teams is over, now we’ll see what this team truly looks like. Losing a few games in a row will put this team back in the “worst 5” in the league again.

The Caps aren’t exactly on fire right now. 3-6-1 in their last 10. If the Wild can get a jump on them early they could pull out a win. But yes we will see today if this has been more of a feast on a really bad team and a really beat up team or if this is more of a turning point.

Man how about the Pens dropping 6 in a row! Wow!

it’s just amazing how for his entire career Ovi has been the #1 thing the opposing teams focus on and worry about and yet he still scorers and scores and scores…it’s been fun to watch him his entire career so far…

Fiala and Kaprizov could be the 1-2 punch this team has never had before next year and beyond…will be fun to watch…BillyG’s top priority should be to get somebody who can get them the puck…

Gregarin Cup starts today for Kaprisov. Good luck to his team. Soak it all in because hopefully its his last with the KHL.
Ovi sets up in his office and does what Ovi does. Wild who had been great on the PK, its what killed them last night. Stupid penalties cost them.
