Is it just me or does Pateryn turn the puck over in his own end A LOT? He is like Dumba use to be with out the upside. Guy is a terrible D-man at both ends of the ice! If we are swinging the ax, it better be his way too.

I love how the announcers were saying the Avalanche were the more desperate club.. WTF??Greenlay needs to be axed after this season…I can deal with LaPanta’s quirks as I think Greenlay is to blame for alot of them..
Every time Dubnyk gives up a goal Greenlay goes on a non stop 5 minute explanation of how that puck eluded the goal tender of the Gods and Dubnyk had no chance of stopping it. The Wild could score 3 times during his explanation and he won’t shut up until he has thoroughly and completely absolved Dubnyk of any fault of that puck going into the net.
Wes Walz can replace him anytime now. I don’t mind Lapanta as much as long as I don’t have to look at his mug especially during that worst of all months Movember!
March 20, 2019 at 12:47 pm #1844661Greenlay is awful…I was thinking the samething. Guy has to go
You know, it’s funny to think about a team buying out their own announcer. Or better yet, trading him for “future considerations”.
As GM, here’s how I would explain it:
“Well, sometimes you have to make difficult decisions in hockey. We thank Greenlay for what he’s done for this hockey club, but ultimately we needed to make a hockey trade that would move the club in a different direction.
In this case, that direction was toward the cold 6 pack of beer we were offered for him. We don’t even care that much that one can was missing.”
How’d I do on the GM-speak guys?

March 20, 2019 at 5:54 pm #1844746I like Brian Engblom until I started watching Bolts games. If I have to hear him say how Vasy has the quickest legs of any goalie one more time… He’s a serious homer, but the color guy and play by play guy are good.

Surely you jest!!

A cold 6 pack with one missing???? I was thinking a sack of used pucks was too much!

March 22, 2019 at 9:31 pm #1845284Good, big win. They were saying at the end of the broadcast that the Wild hadn’t won in DC in 4 years. Greenway’s goal was sweet. Won’t mean much if they don’t continue to win games in this tough stretch, but who knows, they’ve been so streaky that I wouldn’t be surprised either way.

he can’t cover football, its to fast or him, hockey! more brain cells are needed for hockey. I have a box of rocks that are smarter than PA.
March 23, 2019 at 7:46 am #1845312It’s pretty insane how they take care of top teams, not to mention on the road. Well if they make the playoffs that’s the scenario they’ll be given each series. It’s still a long haul to get there though.

He could never get in all his 12 year old cliches and jokes the kids like.
Brady ValbergPosts: 326March 23, 2019 at 8:44 am #1845328I can already hear it…we had the Minneapolis miracle…so last could have been…the ST PAUL SENSATION winning in dc for the first time in 4 years..no? Not feeling it?
March 23, 2019 at 8:47 am #1845329There is nothing I like about a PA broadcast. No matter if it’s the Vikings or his radio show.

Good one! I could listen to his Vox in the Box shows before Wild home games but that was it!

Greenway clears the piledeertrackerPosts: 9165jeff_hubertyInactivePosts: 4941March 26, 2019 at 6:49 am #1845887Greenway is a beast. You see him throw Josi with one arm?
DTYea, that was great, and he was is pulling Boyle of the pile at the same time.
Gronk on Ice!CaptainMuskyPosts: 22296March 26, 2019 at 8:32 am #1845909It happened right in front of us and while it was mostly a bunch of bear hugging, Greenway went toe to toe with one of the biggest and strongest vets out there. I was trying to get pics of it, so I may have missed it, but he either really landed an upper cut or just missed. I should have just put the dang phone down!
Fiala once again makes a costly turnover that eventually led to a goal. He is trying too hard. I think all that praise from PF is playing mind games on the poor kid. He has electric talent, but that pressure isn’t good.
Donato looks better in person. As small as he looks, he really doesn’t get thrown around a whole lot. If he could add 10 pounds I think it would really help him provided it didn’t impact his skating. I love how guys like he and Kunin have their heads up to take a shot vs looking for a pass all the time. Kunin was ridiculously close to scoring twice. They played a fairly decent game over all, but plagued with the same issue as always, cannot put the puck in the net.
Lots of missed calls last night and that call on Foligno was horrible when Pitlick ended up getting the delay of game that should have given us a PP.
Its kind of funny, ended up sitting next to a season ticket holder who obviously knows little about hockey. “How do they know when to change?” or “why did they blow the whistle” — well, net was off and Dubnyk left the ice (phantom penalty call), players gets on the ice, the Dubnyk realized he shouldn’t have come off, goes back on, too many men on the ice. Take your pick. LOL That whole scenario was perplexing. IDK what Dubnyk was thinking, the bench never called for him (coaches at least) and the ref’s arm never went up.March 26, 2019 at 10:15 am #1845954From what they said on the TV he knew the net was off and Nashville can’t score on a net off the pegs. It would have been an astute play if I haven’t seen it happen hundreds of times where there is no whistle and the back official puts the net back.

Ah, that sorta makes sense then.
March 26, 2019 at 10:46 am #1845961my guess is that this rule loophole gets filled soon…as mentioned there’s also huge risk in that one of the refs/linesman can put it back on its moorings (as long as they can still follow the play, they won’t go out of their way to put it back on) and then the goal would be legal, that’s why he hauled a$$ back on the ice last night…
This season just needs to get over with, any wins we have from now on just hurt our draft slot…The only encouraging thing lately is the play of SOME of the younger guys (Greenway/Donato/Kunin) Fiala has been a turn over machine, but it mostly looks like nerves…

IDK, I agree it has been a nightmare season, but say they lose all of the remaining games and stayed with the point total they have now (76) they will would have for sure these teams ahead of them: Red Wings, Senators, Devils and Kings. Teams like Sabres, Rangers, Blackhawks, Oilers, Canucks, Ducks all have point totals that are not far off of the Wild so they will likely pick up a few wins in the end and could pass the wild, maybe. Say all these teams lost their remaining games (not going to happen because there has to be head to heads in there) the Wild would have the 11th worst record. Chances of getting a lottery pick, lets be honest, that isn’t going to happen, this is MN afterall.
If they make the playoffs then at best they would be 17th worst right? So, we are talking a 6 pick difference? IDK how much difference that makes with this class, haven’t looked at it much beyond the top two guys who the Wild have no shot of getting anyway.
If they Wild pick up a win Friday against a hot Vegas team, it absolutely proves they can play with anyone in either conference. Thankfully in the playoffs they don’t play back to backs and the Wild most definitely will have the majority of the games on the road, so there’s that. LOLIce CapPosts: 2151March 26, 2019 at 5:35 pm #1846101Nashville was waiting to be beat last night. Subban made Fiala look like a puck possession guy. This is beyond bad puck luck for the Wild this is some kind of a voodoo curse. I’m really disappointed in Staal. I thought he would step up and be the veteran leader especially after his new contract. He’s been invisible.
The future is clearly with the young guys. Hopefully Fenton can add to that during the off season. We need a pure snipe goal scorer. I don’t care if the guy can play a lick of defense hell I don’t care if he can’t even skate backwards.
March 26, 2019 at 6:13 pm #1846110I think there is a chance they become a really good team in 2 to 3 years. Hopefully Doobs is having an off year otherwise he’ll have to be replaced by then.
I think a healthy would have been worth a few wins and they’d be in the playoffs.
They still have pieces to add and players to develop, but the games I watched I haven’t thought this is a bad team.
Brady ValbergPosts: 326March 26, 2019 at 7:34 pm #1846129It just kind of seems there is very few giving it their all every night…almost like they are just over it and ready to be done with the season and start over with a clean slate…donato is going to be an offensive beast next year if he gets the same minutes next season…greenway…enough said…kunin has flashed what he’s capable of as well but his minutes will likely be cut with koivu comming back unfortunately…fiala has that ability but yes he has some nerves maybe he can catch his breath in the off-season and start over and prove he can bring it day in day out…
Meanwhile in Russia…March 26, 2019 at 8:48 pm #1846148I’m still trying to find out if the Wild can sign Kaprizov immediately if his 2019/2020 KHL season gets over early next year (KHL is currently in its playoff semifinals, so a 1st or 2nd round playoff loss could still get him 10 NHL games at the end of the season)
Letting him burn the 1st year of his rookie contract early might be enough to get him to sign immediately as his contract value is locked in already…

I think at this point the best thing would be for the Wild to miss the playoffs. As Captainmuskie said the draft position wouldn’t make a large difference. The Wild need a game changing player. Is Kaprizov that guy? I would like to believe that but
Until he gets here we still need to draft Top line NHLers.I think the Wild are moving in the right direction, maybe with a full season under their belt Donato and Fiala finally form a formidable top six forwards on this team.
Maybe, they find lightning in a bottle with a top ten draft position.
