I’m not going to call it a steal by any means. The have up a top prospect who is their leading scorer (t-1st in goals) in IA. They picked a guy, same age as Kloos, who was second in scoring (t-2nd) for Anaheim.

A guy who could make them better now and help their chances of a playoff spot this year. You bombers should be crying. bawling

    Lose for Hughes! hah

He definitely has offensive skills, knows how to score goals and shoots RIGHT, we need all 3…the upside for the Wild is better than what the Ducks got.

The problem is by the time you gain possession, if you can’t spring somebody on a breakaway, you’re almost always having to dump and change to keep fresh legs on the ice. Kind of a catch 22, you don’t want to take chances with gassed players pushing into the offensive zone and then giving up possession and getting pinned back in the D zone late in a game.

Hard to pick out anything different the Wild can do

They could try ragging the puck around until a fresh pair of legs get on the ice. Unfortunately they’re coached to chip to the next line and repeat defending.

Meanwhile over in Illinois the #1 draft pick is falling closer into the hands of the Blackhawks!

The difference I see is that Aberg has proven he can score in the NHL RIGHT NOW vs waiting 1-2 more season for Kloos to get his shot and then who knows if he can play in the NHL?

I like the deal, obviously not a huge game changer on paper, but maybe this kid finally figures it out and turns into a good player…All we gave up was a training camp signed player…I think Fenton saw a team in a bigger freefall than the Wild and took advantage of their eagerness to make big changes instantly…

Exactly, for someone to say that Kloos is a “high prospect” is a HUGE stretch. There is a reason he hasn’t played more than one game for the Wild. He is a career AHL player. Kloos is also the same age as Aberg who has already proven he can play at the NHL level.
There is some concern though because he has been waived multiple times by the Ducks this year already and never claimed off waivers. The Wild could have claimed him then, so why didn’t they?
He has seemed to bounce around a lot, but Fenton obviously knows the kid since he was involved with drafting him initially.

I definitely agree. Both guys are the same age but Aberg will impact now. This now means someone will be watching from the press box or will be playing in IA. Ek I assume.

It’s the kind of move you’d expect the wild to try and make. This proves they won’t be big sellers. Even if they miss the playoffs any move they make will be to acquire players that will help them now or free up cap space so they can. Leo doesn’t want a losing team, period.

I think this trade was more opportunistic because the Ducks decided “F it” we’re going to 180 this team right now and Fenton saw he could get more value…my guess is if Fenton can’t make a big move before the all-star break, then he sets a 15-20 game deadline and after those games if the Wild are in the playoff hunt, he stays the course, if they are out of it, he has a yard sale and no offer turned down…

at some point, this must become “his” team…

Isn’t Kloos a center? If he is, some of you should be mad because that’s a signal Coyle is going nowhere.

He is, but he’s a 5’9″ center, he had no future here, judging by how the Ducks have chosen their prospects over the years (big body size) I doubt he has one in Anaheim as well. We would all be lying if we didn’t think Coyle has played much much better since being made center, maybe sticking with the position change is what he needed?

Yes, Kloos is a center. To be honest, Coyle had nothing to fear about Kloos in Iowa, because he was staying there. Yes, he produces well in Iowa, but he will not get much run on any NHL roster IMO.
Coyle has been playing better now that he is playing center.

You want to hear an interesting “coming full circle” moment about this whole trade?

Well, in the trade that sent Burns to San Jose and Settugucci/Coyle to MN there was a draft pick that went to SJ as well. THAT pick was later sent on to Nashville who, get this, used it to draft Aberg.

So we traded Burns for Settugucci/Coyle/Aberg? If Aberg works out, could be a little silver lining to that trade.

Just saw Nino is out. Traded to Carolina for Victor Rask.

    Victor Rask

it’s happening…we save $1.25 million per season, but he’s been playing poorly lately as well, hopefully a new team turns that around, but the contract is a little more acceptable now…

This must mean Ek goes to IA or he’s on the trading block too.

And Staylock gets the start again tonight. Not sure if that’s because of his good game against the Kings or more so if Dubnyk needs a mental break

Ek to Iowa would cost the Wild nothing or I would think JT Brown gets moved/waivers to clear a spot…

The Wild didn’t have practice so Dubnyk hasn’t seen any pucks since the Flyers game while Stalock started the game in between. Bruce didn’t want to play him under those circumstances.

I have nothing against him, but I said earlier trading Kloos meant Coyle was sticking around. Traded for a center so…..

Things have definitely been interesting in the last 24 hrs. I like the Aberg trade. That should give us a slight boost in the goal scoring department.

I’m not so sure on the Nino trade though.. Rask hasn’t produced in a couple years. Not that Nino is putting up big numbers this year, he’s still a large body to put in front of the net and get the dirty goals. But, like someone said earlier, maybe a change of scenery for Rask can spark some output. I’ve always been optimistic about Nino and kinda sad to see him go. Hopefully it all works out!
