But since you get participation points in the NHL is a 100 point season really good?

Of course it’s relative to how many points the rest of the league gets. About 10 teams score 100 pts a year which is the number of MLB playoff teams. Probably about an 88 win season in baseball (give or take).

Second team to be bounced out of the West conf Playoffs to be perfectly clear.

Only 3 out of the last 4 seasons.

So how does the Parise Contract work out if his back troubles end his career? Will a forced retirement due to injury wipe that contract off the Wilds on ice payroll Limit?

I would think there is a clause that once retirement papers are signed a certain percentage would become available to the team again. What that amount is I have no idea. I’d rather have the player then contract relief unless he can’t play.

There are a couple things that could come into play for a player either in a long term injury situation or early retirement. LTIR their salary doesn’t count against the cap or essentially they can go over the cap.
Marian Hossa is basically in this position with the Hawks due to his skin allergy. This is the reason they are able to stay afloat because his contract isn’t hitting the books.
Retirement due to injury would also allow the Wild relief.

Note — it has not been confirmed that Parise’s injury is even his back. Many have speculated that, but he was asked earlier this week and he didn’t say WHAT the injury was, but did say it was NOT his back.
He said it was something “that just flared up”. And when he thought he was on the road to recovery it flared up again.
Using those words could be about anything, but who knows, it could be arthritic something or other, but he was quite clear it wasn’t his back.

Not real confident about tonight. Slow start, long break. Hope they can steal a win. Could go a long way come April.

It’s really more of an irritating, nagging itch. moon

I thought the damn game was going to be on NBCSN. I thought I saw it at NHL.com, but its NBCSCH, a Chicago sports channel. flame

To make matters worse, tonights free NHL.TV game is…

    … Pens at the Bolts!

For early in the season I have to say the level of hockey that’s being played by a number of teams is pretty impressive. Watched Pens/Caps game last night and I wouldn’t say either of these teams has lost much in the offseason, that’s for sure. I’ve watched the Leafs, Hawks, Blues, and some other misc games and I’m not seeing any of these playoff teams looking anything but good for this point in the season.

In the “What were they thinking?” category, what the heck was FL thinking not resigning Jager? This might finally be the proof–if indeed more was needed–that hockey and palm trees are incompatible. Jager, at the age of 108 (hockey years) was FL’s #4 points man and played 82 games last year. Yeah, that’s totally a player you want get on the first plane out of town. He’s now in Calgary and he’s a damn superhero up there already. Good move Panthers, that’s why you suck.

I know right? I mean he was signed July 1st he was such a hot commodity. A rebuilding team doesn’t need a 40 year old guy taking a roster spot.

I was able to watch the 3rd period on the NHL Network. I noticed a lot of ice time for winnik and Foligno absent. It wasn’t until today I realized coyle and Nino left the game too.

The Wild really needed a good win like that.

How that was not offsides I have no idea?

If the defender brings the puck into the zone offside is negated. If I remember correctly the puck was kicked in by the defender.

It was absolutely the right call, and it’s been fun reading Chicago based articles today… just crying like confused little babies.

The play initiated with Toews in the corner trying to hit Seabrook at the point. It was a clean pass – no wild player touched or deflected it – that hopped over Seabrooks’s stick and carried out of the zone. Zucker never touched the puck until it crossed the blueline, so it was brought into the zone by the Hawks.

What no one is talking about is what a play that was by Zucker! Out skates, out muscles, and out battles Seabrook. Then freezes Keith and Crawford with a little toe drag and slides it over to Stewie for a back door chip in. Zucker’s been fun to watch, he could always fly but he’s getting more of that Parise grit in his game every year… hope he can stay healthy!

Ok, thanks for the info. The NHL Network had Chicago’s feed and it was pretty funny. They started saying how it was coming back. Then as it took the refs longer they were like, this can’t be good. LOL

Of course they had no explanation other than Zucker is in the zone before the puck.

Absolutely the correct call as mention above and I even thought the Chicago defender at the line kicked the puck also. In any case Chicago brought the puck into the zone, therefor no offsides. Zuckers hustle on the play was incredible, although that is no surprise from him. He just keeps getting better!!

I was watching the Chicago broadcast as well, NBC Sports Chicago ?? Anayway, it was some of the worst commentary I’ve heard… not even being over the top homers like some teams, but just totally clueless about the game – didn’t know a single wild player’s name. Apparently the last goal was scored by SAKU Koivu! It really seemed like the commentary guy had never watched a hockey game before

    Quenneville is such a b$&^%h!

“He didn’t carry it and didn’t have possession, so I disagree with that ruling,” a seething Joel Quenneville said. “Plus it was offside. I mean, why didn’t he blow the whistle? Unless he knew that rule and thought he had possession? Or he thought he carried it or controlled it?”

Those darn linesmen! How dare they make the right call.

I guess I have t read the rule but I totally disagree with the possession requirement.

A puck poke-checked off a players stick the defenders own zone should be fair game. If the defender forces the puck into their own zone with any contact, you lose.

I thought this was a fairly well known rule.

Kunin called up, Nino out probably a week, Foligno & Coyle out possibly 2-4 weeks… ouch! good thing we have a little left of our crazy schedule so they won’t miss as many games as they usually would…

Does it count if it crosses the goal line if its in the goalies glove? If so the top save was actually a goal.

The glove saves are top notch, desperate blind dives for the puck look great on film not sure if they Qualify for top 10.

Yes it does count. As long as it happens before the whistle blows. But if it is not called a goal on the ice, there has to be unquestionable proof that the whole puck crossed the whole goal line.

    Pretty rare call.

Btw. 8 & 7 are pretty ho hum.

After watching, I’m 100% sure none of the pucks in the top 10 were in the net. Even #1.

Generally, you still need to see white between the goal line and the puck. It would have to be pretty much indisputable that no matter where in the glove that puck is it would be across the line by a good margin.

The great saves are when the goalies are stretching and moving to make the save. I hate when a goalie throws his glove out and the shooter unluckily shoots it right into the mitt and people are thinking it was a great save. But if that goalie has to make a really athletic play to get the glove in a position to have a chance and the shooter happens to just shoot it right into the glove, I think that is a great save.

I really hate ones like number 4 where it isn’t a great save, it is a horrible shot. That didn’t even look like it was going in. There are a lot of so called great saves that they highlight where it was actually a horrible shot. For example, #4 the entire left 2/3 of the net is open and he shoots it to the right side.

Are Wild games expensive to get tickets for. Never been to a game and would love to go. I’m from Iowa, so are there any decent hotels near the arena?
