Just saw that on Twitter. He was the best in the biz I say. The way he phrased it on Twitter made me think he will be working for the Wild.

I believe so too. Notice he didn’t “thank” the Wild?
Also, there has been a rush to top beat writers to “The Athletic” a subscription based writing guild. Rutherford from St Louis Blues just went last week.
I suspect this is where Russo is going.
All of their content is purchased. I looked into it and its like $48 per year.

Then hopefully he’ll continue to have a free blog for the meaty stuff. )

LaVelle E Neal was on KFAN yesterday and confirmed that is where Russo is going. And you are correct it is a $6/month subscription, with their goal of getting most of the inside scoops justifying the cost, so you will likely hear a lot more names signing on with them soon.

Its interesting that Lavelle made that comment, when Russo himself hasn’t said publicly. I suppose they are going to do some big announcement or something. I read a tweet from some other sports writer congratulating Rutherford and Russo on their move “together”. I don’t suppose its a secret or a surprise.
Not sure if I will subscribe or not. I still like the price of FREE.

Best of luck to him. I personally have a hard time justifying online subscriptions period, let alone one where I would basically only be interested in 1/20th of their content.

My sentiments exactly. As of right now they are a small publication, but growing by leaps and bounds. They started out of Chicago I guess, but are now spreading like crabgrass. Content should increase over time, but I probably wont fund something to help them get going. I will wait until they get to their end game then consider it.

Our season ticket group got together this weekend for our annual ticket pick. Season start is just around the corner.

It’s going to be very interesting to see which of the young players stay up after the preseason. It will also be interesting to see Staylock in goal, I assume they’ll play him multiple games in the pre and now that he’s #2 I’m wanting to see how he compares to the departed Kuemper.

Wild have made enough changes that a lot depends on how the lines gel and does the production get started without a lot of musical lines changes. They need to find a way for Doobs to play at a high level without him depending on playing every night. Last year we saw the perfect demo of what happens to a goalie who needs to play a lot to stay sharp, but then the downside…

Does Erickson-Ek stay up this year? Will be interesting to see Cullen back in a Wild sweater.

Also will be interesting to see if some of the teams who made big acquisitions or signed high dollar re-ups in the off season. Dallas should be better but that’s what they said last year too. Edmonton has no more excuses, McDavid isn’t a rookie anymore, Draisaitl is getting big bucks and they basically have 1 year to produce before starting dumping vets to make the cap.

I think barring injury or a complete loss of his game Ek is up for the whole season. I just read that he got injured (along with Granlund a couple weeks back), but it didn’t sound serious.
Reading some of Russo’s recent blogs, Ek appears to have gained a significant amount of strength since last year. Boudreau actually described him as “huge”. I bet he starts out at wing on the 3rd line, possibly Center.

The guy I am interested to see is Kunin. It seems he has elevated his game at every level and this could be an exciting year for him. He is likely to bounce up and down I am sure, because of roster flexibility and all, but I bet he gets a good run.

I have the 1st preseason game so I’ll likely have a chance to see a number of these young guys. It may, however, take me a period or so to figure out who everyone is. If I recall from last year there were a lot of new numbers to remember. This preseason there will likely be a lot of different new numbers to remember.

Too bad with Kuemper. I thought he was going to be a stud, but he’s streaky and only suitable as a backup. He would be horrible a few games and then stand on his head a few games. I

I always liked Kuemper. To bad he didn’t work out. When he was on he was on. To bad the opposite was also true. Saw on Twitter that Ryan Carter retired after 10 seasons.

Ryan Malone is mounting a comeback with the Wild. It will be interesting to see where his game is at when training camp starts. He is a big guy and if he is able to skate well, he could spell some of the young guys that may not be ready to go.
Still concerned that Foligno isn’t signed…

Last I heard, Foligno was quoted to say they were real close. I think Fletch is trying to keep his hands from being tied this year as much as possible, but it can’t be easy with the rule these days.

Yeah, I heard that too, the quote even came from Foligno himself, so hopefully they are close to something.

And so it continues…Parise is “banged up” heading into training camp.

    Good Lord!

Wild bring former Caps forward Daniel Winnik to camp on a tryout contract. Makes me wonder if the Parise situation hasn’t been brewing for a while now and the Wild are scratching for even more possible depth.

I REALLY hope to see Ek, Anas, or Kunin show up this year with an NHL-ready game and be a real contributor. We need a mix of vets, of course, but the Wild need the pipeline that’s been almost totally absent due to the Riseborough era to start paying off with real prospect to player conversions of these top picks.

Foligno signed to a 4 year 11.5m deal.

    Ok, now we are set.

Almost $3M a year. That seems like a lot, especially for a guy who probably won’t ever break the 20 goal mark. But I believe he does play on the PK and has a lot of upside. He’s the 3rd power forward we have behind Nino and Coyle, but a power forward who is physical and will stick up for teammates, something the other 2 are unwilling to do. I look forward to seeing how he pans out.

Ryan Malone story is interesting. He’ll probably be nothing but a side note, but who knows, maybe 2 years away has recharged the batteries for a year.

Red died in August and the building was too old/out of code to update for a new owner so they just decided to close it. Go get it now if you want it, that location closes for good after tomorrow.

Went last night to get my last pizza had a 2 hour wait. People were taking selfies out side with the Savoy sign in the background. Place is going to be missed!

On NHL Network tonight, but its “picked up in progress” so that sucks.
Lots of young guys in the lineup for tonight. Will be interesting to see how they play. I know there is one guy in particular here that is wanting to see something out of Soucy, well tonight is the first chance!

Does anybody know if Sling dropped FSN? I cancelled it over the summer and was going to start it again but didn’t see it listed.

I still have fsn. Plus all the alternate stations.

You can also get NHL network for an extra $10/mo.

Koivu locked up for 2 more years! waytogo

I don’t understand his detractors. He’s as solid a 2 way player as there is and he is the reigning face of the franchise. This is his 12th season (if you include lockout years)
