Stewart claimed off waivers.Too bad to see Stewart go as I liked the grit he provided.
However…
Is there a trade announcement coming with the deadline just passed?
Was this to clear space for Greenway to join after the college season wraps up?
I see Vanek was dealt to the Blue Jackets.
I don’t see that Ottawa managed to deal Karlsson, or at least no deal was announced.

I hope there is a deal in the works, as they dealt Mike Reilly for a 5th round pick as well.
February 26, 2018 at 7:47 pm #1755452Reilly to the Canadians.
Echo, echo, echo.
Reilly for a 5th round pick sounds bad but I honestly didn’t see him playing regularly in the nhl. Since the wild got him as a fa, they didn’t even burn a draft pick for him. Hell, they got Kaprizov in the 5th round.
February 26, 2018 at 9:01 pm #1755470I had no idea the wild have the 7th best record in the league. Blow it up.

Agreed, but who is going to compete with Tampa now? Good Lord!
The Jets just got better with Stastny, but perhaps he was part of the problem in STL and it was commented on NHL NEtwork that many teams didn’t even think he was available. Hmmm.February 27, 2018 at 9:46 am #1755549Sure would be nice to kick the Blues while they are down tonight.

I’m of the opinion that FA rentals can be a big risk to take when there is a lot of parody in the NHL. Not to mention injuries can derail things in a hurry. I like the McDonagh deal because it isn’t a rental. You get a top defenceman for 2 years at a good price. But if I was a GM I would be very careful about trading away assets and the future for the right now.
And look Kuch, Bergeron and Murray are all injured today. You can go get a rental at a high price and an injury can undo all that in a hurry.
February 27, 2018 at 8:31 pm #1755789What the heck. Are they only playing one line tonight?
Blow it up.

Blow it up.
If that one line puts up 14 points every game, that’s all they need to play!! Staal is on FIRE right now!! Hopefully they can keep this going on the back to back road games. With 19 games left, they are getting hot at the right time!
February 28, 2018 at 5:59 am #1755825I love seeing Yeo take a beat down….and that my friends was a serious beat down last night
ps. a lot of people need a new hat now too
February 28, 2018 at 6:09 am #1755827After watching that and seeing Staal is tied for 4th in goals, if ever there was a year to make a cup run, this is it. This is the best team out of the last 16 seasons.
Staal already has 30 and probably will have 40 by seasons end. Has a wild player ever scored 40? I’m pretty sure the answer is no. Zucker will also probably have 30. Granlund is also on fire and I imagine Nino is going to get back to scoring, right now he seems to be playing injured, he’s not quite the Nino we know.
They are actually very similar to the Bolts and I can see a final between the 2 teams. Wouldn’t that be fun?

Gabby had 42 one year…other than a few Dumba brain farts, that was a great game the team played last night…obviously the key with this team is to keep the momentum going, no late season slumps…

A few, there were many. He was terrible last night. When he took that shot to the leg I almost hoped he would be knocked out of the game. He’s got a really bad habit of turning the puck over in his own end
February 28, 2018 at 8:48 am #1755876That two-hander to the lower back Schenn gave him was a tough no call, but he still should have got the puck out of the zone and then being lazy getting back to the net before Teransenko scored.. You gotta take the good (OT winners) with the bad (stupid turnovers that directly lead to goals) with him, he’s a risk/reward type of player. He’s really cleaned up his game this year, but the dumb mistakes still sneak in every now & then, i’m happy with the progress he’s made this season. He still leads the team in +/- too…
February 28, 2018 at 1:54 pm #1755998Great game last night and fun to see the Wild throttle the Blues and Mike Yeo. And winning 8-3 I finally got to see a lot of goals, that was awesome! Yeo was squirming on the sidelines a few times, its got to be getting uncomfortable in St. Louis with just a free-fall.
I like Dumba and want him on the team. But, horrible give-away in our zone to get St. Louis on the board. Also, he just about took Dubnyk out of the game with that shot to the head with his knee. He had a couple other bad passes that could have gone wrong in a hurry. Not a good game for Dumba.
The Staal, Zucker, Grandlund line is on fire right now. Hopefully the whole team can get hot for a playoff run……..
February 28, 2018 at 9:57 pm #1756139Ok. I like to hate a guy for no reason as much as the next guy, but why the hate on Yeo?
It’s been discussed here so many times that Suter and others are the reason for the attitude and possible the slumps on this wild team. Are you suggesting that Yeo is responsible for the late season slump?

Your question may have been aimed at others, but I’ll give a response. No, I don’t think the Wild late season slump is directly related to Yeo. Push come to shove I think it’s on the players more, and would agree it’s veteran leadership or lack thereof. Having said that, Yeo’s the enemy now plain and simple. After the embarrassing loss to them in the playoffs last year, I don’t mind seeing him take a few lumps.
March 1, 2018 at 1:33 pm #1756278Terrific play by the Wild in the Blues game to make sure they beat a team that they should beat.
As I pointed out when I first called for Yeo to go about 2 years before the Wild fired him, if the coach had no impact on the team’s direction, there wouldn’t be any coaches. Yeo was handed a team at STL that had a higher powered offense than anything he’d ever had at MN, he has a very good goaltender in Allen, he had a playoff series win in his first year, and now he’s again at the helm of a struggling team that is slipping out of contention at a critical time. Hmmmmm… At some point, the question has to be asked…
The Wild have back to back games tonight and tomorrow and I think these are critical as far as making hay while the sun shines. The Wild need to beat these 2 very beatable teams and tack another 2 wins onto the streak. We need to make a dent in the Jets lead and really make them look in the rearview mirror.
What else can be said about Staal? His line is on FIRE. Grandlund is certainly one of the top 5 setup men in the NHL. Love the Granny soccer style chest bump to stick goal. Try that one at home, kids.
Kunin is up with the big club, and Greenway could be on the way. It’s a fun hockey club to watch, can’t ask for much more as a fan.

And I guess as Wild GM, how do you fire a coach that’s getting you into the playoff$.
The $ was intentional because that’s how owners view the playoffs. Big big $$$.

Search on here “Yeo must go” and you will get all the dirt you want, or just hate him for no reason.
Grouse that Granny goal was something else!!

The Blues were floundering last year when they fired Hitch and promoted Yeo. They dumped their best defenseman and they go on a heckuva run and steamrolled through the Wild in the first round. So if you are going to give credit to him for the bad, you have to give credit to him for the good too.
I liked Yeo, didn’t want to see him go, but I understand something had to change here and so far I think it is for the better though this roster has had a fair amount of change over since his time here so it cannot completely be put on him. I think he has the ability and has proven he can win, but agreed he has been coaching teams that have good talent.
If you need a coach to get you up for a game at the NHL level then its the players problem. Schematically during the game with changes in lineups and some strategy falls solely on the coaches, but execution and effort is on the players.March 1, 2018 at 3:05 pm #1756298Search on here “Yeo must go” and you will get all the dirt you want, or just hate him for no reason.
No need. It’s not hard to remember. After the first round we’ll start hearing “Boudreau must go”. Or most certainly “fire Fletch”.

The choice to get rid of a coach may not ride solely on the GM. There may have been intense pressure from Leipold. Look at Trotz in Washington. If they fall again early in the playoffs, I am betting money he is gone and they have made the playoffs how many years in a row? Owners want playoffs yes, because of the revenue, but they aren’t going to continue to put up with lackluster play in the playoffs especially with high expectations like the Caps or even the Wild have had in recent years.
March 1, 2018 at 6:15 pm #1756348As the old saying goes, it’s easier to fire a coach than 23 players.
I can tell you the one legit beef with Yep you can has is the the PP. Just ask Pittsburgh fans. An awful PP has followed his coaching career. And on that note I think it’s because he over uses PP1. When he was hear the PP2 didn’t get much in the way of opportunities. Guys like Nino, Zucker and even Ganlund barely played the pp. Now they are flourishing.
March 1, 2018 at 8:14 pm #1756375I live in a small rural area and I’m pretty sure we had more people in church last weekend than there are at the game in Phoenix tonight.
March 2, 2018 at 5:06 am #1756415It’s so frustrating to see them lose to basement dwellers. It happens too often and I don’t understand it. But on the flip side you can’t win them all.
