MN Walleye Opener

Anyone else struggling with how late Minnesota walleye opener is this year…. It’s been killing me hearing from my buddy who has been fishing, cleaning up on Green bay and Winnebago eyes for the last month or so.

Would it really hurt the walleye population that much if the DNR would open the season during the last weekend in April or the first weekend in May.

Yes I think it would really hurt a number of bodies of water. It doesn’t really bother me that much, a trip to Rainy in April and multiple trips to P4 tide me over. Plus some time on local lakes for panfish helps scratch the itch. What does bother me is a wedding on fishing opener, and the weekend after. These people should lose their MN citizenship for their audacity!!! evil

How’d ya feel those super late springs few years back, same way?

Resorts and fisherman need dates set months in advance, mother nature is mother nature and cannot be guaranteed.

Perhaps booking trips to waters that are open in April to ease your impatience will help wave

Unfortunately with a demanding work schedule it is tough for me to take frequent trip.

    x2 on all of it.

My anniversary is coming up in a couple weeks. When we were planning “her” wedding I had very few conditions. One was not on opener and she agreed.

We got married in the Cross Lake area on 5/18. Opener was on 5/11 and the ice went out on 5/15 that year on Gull.

To the OP, I get the spring fever and with you. Some years I made a run to Wisconsin to scratch the itch.

I know it makes sense to open the season with how they have been doing it and nobody wants to break traditions. Just getting excited. I just don’t know how many more days I can take, I have been going crossed eyed studying lake maps to kill time and we still have more then a week to go.

I get the same way. My Dr. prescribed trips to the nearest river open for walleyes, or in case of emergency panfish a local lake. Trust me it helps! waytogo

Well having a wife only allows for so many outings. I like to compile as many as possible to use only for walleye/muskie trips.

Lol that was me at my wedding this past fall! Unfortunately the wedding on opener is in AZ, so not sure on the walleye bite around Phoenix. And the next one is in Downtown St. Paul and my wife already nixed the idea of arriving via boat on P2. bawling

Don’t have to fish for walleye.

I used to get all worked up about the walleye opener when I was younger. Now it’s just another day of fishing for me because there are so many more opportunities to fish walleye than there was 20+ years ago.
