Just a heads up still have time but Jan. 25 is the deadline for people applying for season A or b. I have already got my WI done and MN done. Going for Season A ,should be a great spring last year was a blast. Lucky to get A last year hoping to get lucky again or surplus tag for B season if I miss on the drawing.

Season A is a big risk. Last year here was literally a blizzard during that season.

The only year I applied and got season A I had to walk thru almost waist deep snow drift’s. I tried to clear a small clear spot to set up the decoy. Needless to say the Toms were not fired up or impressed with my ugly setup. I’ll just buy a over the counter for the C or D season. A season is to =risky

Weather is out of my control and has not really messed up any hunts because of snow. I have had some of my best hunts in snow or blizzard conditions.

I maybe use a decoy once a season mostly they just stay in my truck. Last year the birds where going pretty good. Even watched one get breed on a lake that boarders our land same day I shot mine. Got to help with my buddy’s kid get his first bird.

Snow was knee deep in the woods and waist deep on him ) in a lot of spots. 26 yrs of applying for season A guess I have never thought of changing. I just scout a lot more when I know weather is going to nasty. Trail cameras last spring was a huge reason we had a lot of luck. Found where they wanted to be in the bad weather and it worked out for a few birds. Couple in A and another in B.

I always hunt season D and I have had a season where we got 17″ of snow the night before the season opened. It’s MN, every season is a crap shoot! I now get the bow license and hunt the whole season.

It’s a total crapshoot every year with the A season, but I can’t stop myself. We don’t have a lot of turkeys in my area, flocks are spread out so to be the first to get at them seems to be a big advantage.

I also speculate that once the breeding starts, it’s wham-bam-thank you mam and the Toms get r done very quickly because, again, there just aren’t a lot of turkeys. I wonder if in areas where there just are way more turkeys, the toms don’t stay aggressive longer because there’s just way more hens to cover? It seems like after the A and maybe into some of the B, but things go quiet almost overnight and suddenly the hens disappear.

That begs the question: would you rather hunt early season in cold and snow or late season in hot temps with bugs? Because that is exactly what happened last spring. It was a blizzard in April and it was almost 100 degrees by Memorial Day!

Reminder tomorrow 25th is the last day to apply for A or B in MN. I will take cold and snow over heat any year turkey hunting.
