MN Turkey A/B Season Draw.

Sitting here watching the snow fall, I need to think of something spring.

When do we hear on the tag draw for A/B seasons?

I’ve got a preference point, so historically that means I’m due to draw an A season tag in my area. Of course now the snow is really stacking up all over MN, so here we go again with another spring that requires snowshoes…

Should be hearing very soon Grouse. The DNR website says that they will send out the post cards in Mid-February and licenses become available March 1.

I am glad I went with the B season this year. However, instead of sitting in a snow bank, I may be sitting in a puddle.

Guessing should be maybe Friday if lucky but think more like next week.

Can’t wait went through a bunch of gear this weekend. Sent in a blind for repair a friend ripped.

Grouse depending on your zone you should draw a tag this year. I might get missed for A . (

Snow is just fine with me :).

Most years I will be in snow in one of the states hunting.

The thing that killed the hunting last year for me in the A season wasn’t just snow on the ground. It was that crunchy frozen stuff that made so much noise when walking that you might as well have a brass band follow you around in the woods.

No kidding, I could hear my dad walking over a quarter of a mile away and he was trying his best to be quiet! It was that bad. Most days during that prime AM flydown time, it’s also still and quiet. So good luck getting close to the roosts and by close I mean like within a half mile.

We also had a terrible time with muddy field/access roads. I don’t want to take a chance rutting up any of our neighbors field roads or fields, so we had to walk almost everywhere. Not a problem except it slows the run and gun hunting way down.

Well, lots of time yet and you never know, we could have 70 degrees in April that way things have been going. Last year when the snow went, it all went within a couple of days.

The results aren’t posted yet, I checked today. I also applied for season B and my point preference is priority level 1 so I expect to draw that one.

Season A tends to turn me off simply because of the potential for “winter” weather. I have no interest in turkey hunting in the snow. Granted, last year season B probably would have had some still too. But last year by season D, it was really warm out already and it was almost 100 degrees at the end of the season. I’m not really interested hunting when its super warm out either though…

I agree, it’s a total crapshoot. I’ve had bluebird weather in the A season and I’ve been snowed/rained/drowned out like a rat in both the A and B seasons.

The overriding concern that makes me choose the A season is hunting pressure. I do not have an abundance of turkeys in my area, so being the first to get at them is a huge advantage. Also, I think the peak of the breeding season is actually before the hunting season starts so the earlier you go, the more aggressive the birds are likely to be.

Also, I strongly suspect that because hunters are allowed to wear camo, there is a lot of trespassing going on and it fruther spooks the birds. Guys are sneaking on to land they don’t have permission to hunt because it’s very hard for a landowner to spot a turkey hunter out in the middle of a section. Even after firing a shot, it’s pretty easy for a tresspasser to grab the downed bird and disappear.

Hit the right weather and it can be beautiful. Hit the wrong weather and it can be almost unhuntable.

Anybody know where to look on the DNR website to see if turkey permit results are up?

I know it’s not a work day for the government, but wondering if this got posted on Friday maybe.

You go on the DNR website and click on hunting and the different species of game come up and then click on wild turkey. It will say to check whether you have been drawn by putting in your driver’s licensed number or your DNR number. I just checked and it wasn’t up when I looked.

This is how I feel too. My uncle has gotten us access to some nice private property in far SE MN. Problem is, it comes with the condition that we hunt D season. By then, they’ve been pressured for almost a month, and have basically stopped gobbling. It’s been a tough nut to crack in my experience.

Got my A season notice in the mail also. Going to bring a newbie out if he got drawn. Last year hauled my gobbler and equipment out on a sled. Need the snow to stop and some serious melting to begin. Still nothing on the DNR website on being able to check whether you were drawn or not. First time I received my notification in the mail before I could check it out on the website.

Going to be heading out to put the cameras out here in a couple weeks. Get the birds figured out, can’t wait. 20 gauge is ready to go and hoping to have a new bow by NE season.
