Good luck to all the archers shooting the state NASP tournament in St. Cloud today and tomorrow. Our high school team shoots today at 4 and 5. waytogo

NASP is a great program. Glad my gym teacher got me involved 18 years ago when I was in middle school and then supported me in getting the Champlin Park High School team going. Can personally attest to it getting me involved in archery for life.

Amazing to see how many teams it’s expanded to and the size of the state tournaments.

My niece shoots for Champlin’s middle school team. She is an 8th grader. She shot a 274 this morning. Beat her previous best by 17 points.

My step son shot a 282 yesterday.

I also help coach. It’s a lot of fun.

What’s crazy is a 4th grader leading the whole tourney with a 297. Insane!

Some of the scores put up in recent years are phenomenal – a testament to the dedication (and talent) that those kids have for the sport.

Congrats to your niece and step-son, it’s always a thrill shooting in the tournaments. I was there back when Barry was head coach, but I think he stepped down from coaching the Champlin teams a number of years ago since his kids are off in college. I want to say Ryan Best was still involved though.

A buddy Big Werm and I went to school with coaches at Sartell. Sounds like they have a good program and consistently finishing well. His son is a good shooter as well. As it’s been said on IDO before, wish these activities were around when I was in school!

Was up with my 8th grade son – was a good day to shoot his PB 280!

It is pretty cool to look down a line of 50 targets and see the varying patterns, just due to kids starting out and those that are proficient at it. Also pretty neat that a kid gets to say he (or she!) shot at state, and the smile that goes with it, without having to necessarily be a crack shot!

Yeah I saw he posted his boys got 4th (280) and 8th (274) at state, but I’m not sure which age groups they are in.
