Aside from the obvious big walleye lakes…… Can anybody chime in with resorts that are open in the winter? Looking to take my 7 yr old son ice fishing for a weekend. I can bring my portable and 4 wheeler.

    Thanks,

Thunderbird Lodge on Rainy is open in the winter (with discounted rates compared to summer)

Blackduck lake up near Bemidji has some resorts that offer ice fishing. White Birch Lodge I think is one. Been meaning to get on Blackduck myself.

Arrowwood Resort in Alexandria. It’s on Lake Darling. It also has a water park.

That’s a fun place for kids. Lots of good lakes within 15 minutes of there also

Hey Lindy, have you considered renting a wheelhouse and heading to a fairly quiet lake? Pretty fun adventure for a kid. I did this with my nephew last year. I brought a portable firepit and made s’mores. I called it winter camping vs. ice fishing. He was all fired up telling his buddies he was going camping in the snow!

Dunrovin and Teepee Tonka are 2 others on Blackduck that offer cabins/ice fishing. There are plenty of others in the area as well, depending on what you are targeting

I’ve thought about that place several times. Not sure if we could just walk out and have a reasonable chance of success or if I’d be better off bringing the wheeler to cover ground.

That is a good idea actually. My only problem with that is I’m somewhat skiddish driving on lakes I’m not familiar with and sounds like it’s extra difficult this year with snow/ice conditions.

There is a spot within walking distance that people fish for crappies and sunfish. I haven’t personally fished there for a few years though.
