South Dakota just released their report – also down 17%. Iowa, MN and SD all down exactly 17% – interesting… The SD report did mention that flooded ditches and unplanted crop fields reduced the number of pheasants using roadside habitat – which is what the counts in these reports represent. So those conditions likely artificially reduced the number of birds represented in the 2019 reports.

Either way, I take these reports with a grain of salt. Even 2 years ago when numbers were way down, we had no problem getting on birds. I’ve got 2 trips to SD on the books for this year, first week in Nov and first week in Dec. Can’t wait!

Iowa report arent out yet but they will likely say down as well. However our friend down there says more birds where we hunt so who knows. I will after hunting!

Iowa’s report is indeed out. 17% decline for pheasants.

Exact same 17% decrease for SD, IA and MN.

I am actually surprised the results were not far worse TBH. The main pheasant range in MN had one round of bad thunderstorms after another this summer with lots of hail, etc.
