Pheasant opener was a successful day for us in SE MN! Billy, me and my dad (@rootski here on IDO) joined up with some family and friends for a fun day of hunting. It was overcast and very windy but we didn’t let the wind stop us from getting some pheasants. The dogs all worked their hearts out and Fritz and Remi slept much of the way home. Fritz doesn’t usually sleep during car rides so he must’ve been pooped! This was Remi’s first year hunting in a larger group and he’s still showing some apprehension when the guns go off, but he recovers okay and resumes hunting next to his brother, Fritz.
I found a couple of caterpillars and some green grasshoppers, and we saw a fat ol’ bunny hopping down the road ahead of us. We also jumped about 4 deer. At one point, I was down wind from a pretty doe, walking toward her and her head was bobbing all around as she was trying to tell what I was. It didn’t take long before her tail went up and she trotted away. Of course I was just about to take a picture of her too. It’s hard sometimes, having to choose between being more ready for a bird to flush or taking pictures, but I think I balance both pretty well.
