Do any of you remember the Minnesota fishing opener coverage back in the 1960’s? As a little kid I would sit at our kitchen table and listen to WCCO radio for hours that Saturday in May.
Starting in the moring and running to mid-afternoon they would have reports from all over the state, places like: Walker, park rapids, alexandria, brainerd, garrison, baudette, duluth, grand rapids, ely, bemidji, and more. It was like a big time sporting event, with reporters from affiliate stations talking to bait shops and fisherman. Of course back then, many fishermen went back to the bait shop to brag and weigh their fish. Great memories.

Yep. Pretty sure that lasted into the 80’s & 90’s.

It usually originated from the Governors open which was cancelled this year.

Makes sense. I was probably fishing the opener in the 1970’s and beyond without the radio. As a little kid i thought it was so cool to hear them say things like: “lets go back to Steve at cutfoot souix and see if the big walleyes are still biting like they were an hour ago”
