I’m a fisherman and I don’t think we should be traveling all over the state yet, possibly soon, not now. I’m sure mn fish has quite a few epidemiologists on the payroll.

You’re missing the point I think.

MnFish is made up of fishing equipment manufactures and distributors and funded by fisherman. Their sole purpose as I see it is to keep the registers ringing and people outdoors. To that end their e-mail makes sense. From your perspective i’m guessing not so much.

Almost all of MN Conservation groups have joined together asking Walz to encourage anglers and hunters to buy licenses, even if they don’t plan on fishing or hunting in 2020. Our DNR Fish and Wildlife Departments are funded only by these license dollars. If MNFish wanted to do something for the future of angling, they should consider advocating for this cause.

That doesn’t make much sense to me…..

If you’re a fisherman or hunter you’re going to buy a license every year.

I don’t know a single person who takes a year off from either. Seems like a tremendous waste of an ad campaign……

I agree however I doubt we’re their target audience. They are focusing on the once or twice a year fisherman, and the half a day in the deer stand types. That’s likely the majority of sportsmen in the state and they don’t “need” to buy a license.

Is it really a ad campaign if it’s Facebook & e-mail only? devil

Oh well, we been begging for them to do something. Maybe we should have been more specific. jester

ST. PAUL — A sport fishing group says that Minnesota’s coronavirus travel restrictions put a damper on one of the most popular recreational activities in the state.

Minnesotans have always been allowed to hunt, fish and take part in other outdoor activities under the stay at home order Gov. Tim Walz issued last month, but only if they stay within a reasonable distance of their homes. But MN-FISH, a state fishing foundation and coalition, is asking Walz to make an exception for fishermen and boaters itching to travel elsewhere in the state.

“We strongly support Gov. Walz’s position on getting outdoors and believe that statewide travel for anglers and boaters is inherently safe with existing social distancing practices already in place,” group president Ron Schara said in a statement.

The group made their request public on Friday, April 17, the same day that Walz issued a new executive order that reopened golf courses and shooting ranges across Minnesota. While that order also permits bait shops and marinas to reopen, outdoor equipment shops, guided fishing businesses and charter boat services remain closed.

Walz’s office could not immediately be reached for comment on the group’s request.

Mr Schara has told me off the record that he supports 2 lines, but that the MN-Fish org won’t get involved with controversial topics. Before the whole virus thing took hold, I was also told there would be another 2 line bill introduced this year and with some stipulations that would make it very favorable to pass. But….at this point I’m doubtful of even seeing a bill this year.

I’m subscribed to the MN FISH group and was glad to see that newsletter posted above, but not getting the warm fuzzies that our money is being used wisely.
