Mixed Results for the good guys

We spent about 2 full days on the water and caught some big fish, but the numbers were below what we were hoping for. We only boated 5 fish in the slot and 7 over with a couple 26″ers in the mix.

I hear talk of a good bite, but we didn’t see a lot of nets hitting the water around us. The best spots were Ottertail when we had a south wind and the major points on Bear Island. We also got a few around Pelican Island.

All fish came on green/yellow jigs and jigging raps. We tried other colors, but never got a bite on anything else.

We stayed at Trappers Landing and I was very impressed with the resort. Josh was awesome and they did everything they could to help us find fish. Everything on the grounds was well maintained and they were very attentive. A few guides kicked in some info as well and that helped us to put some additional fish in the boat.

Water temps were 52 or so and the fish were so fat they looked ready to burst. I would imagine it will just keep getting better with the cold weather right now.

So 7 fish over 26″ is just okay? Sounds pretty darned good to me!

7 over the 20″ slot. 7 over 26″ would have been a much different report!

Nice report, they are definitely well fed this time of year, so I don’t know if huge # days are a realistic goal. We were up last weekend and had a similar report from Walker Bay, a few more fish but none close to 26. Trappers is a great place to spend a weekend, that’s for sure!

Confusion on the slot part for myself, but indeed would be different report.

Good to hear on the jig bite. Never hear to many using plastics up there, may give it a go this round, typically less fish but bigger.

Signing off some checks this morning I seriously had “Leec” written as my name. Need to leave for sanity purposes.

Was in reeds today. Asked how the bite was. “phenomenal, group at trappers last weekend had 47 limits”. Made me instantly think of this post

They had a large group of people who were out with some of the top fisherman and guides in the area. I dont doubt in the least they found lots of fish.

This was our forth fall fishing the lake for 2 day trips and are a long way from figuring things out. The quality of the fish is what keeps bringing us back.
