We are looking at possibly relocating to Minnesota this year, and one of the areas includes the Mississippi between Crow Wing and Little Falls. My questions are: Is that part of the river navigatible for a multi specie boat and how is the fishing in general. Looking for panfish as well as game fish.
Any insight wuld be greatly appreciated. I would hate to move there only to find that it is not a good area to fish and boat.
    Thanks, tr

The fishing on the river is really good, for smallies especially. I think it is pretty shallow for the most part though. There are a lot of really nice lakes in the area if you don’t mind trailering to Shamineau, Fish Trap to the West, all the Brainerd area lakes north, and Mille Lacs and surrounding lakes to the east. All within an 30-40 minute drive.

The stretch below Little Falls is navigable from dam to dam. You see some boats above Little Falls more so in the high water months.

I spent a weekend running around from the confluence of the crow wing river to Baxter last summer. The water level when I was up there would of been tough to do in anything but a small boat or jet. Out of 4 boats that I saw for the weekend 3 were jets if that says anything.

Thanks for the reply. I have been thinking about fishing those lakes also.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, the property we are considering is above the dam in Little Falls and close to the air field. If this area is not good for larger boats, how would a canoe do or depending on land elevation is shore fishing a possibility? Would like the grand kids to be able to fish when they come for a visit.
    Thanks, tr

    Canoes are fine.
