Is there any guidelines on how much to tip an outfitter? What have some people tipped in the past? Thanks

Just my opinion, so take it at that. Tips are a token of your appreciation and (my view point) should not be expected. I’m a guide and would never think twice of basing my service for someone on the tip may give. I understand that some people don’t have the “extra” money and are already tapped by flipping the bill on a trip. With that said, I don’t turn away money and gratefully accept what is offered. I see 20 to a 100 on a days hard work and understanding the client puts that into perspective. Not everyone makes a 100K a year and sometimes that 20 is the sacrifice from their living expenses. just my thoughts

To me, tipping is a very subjective item. I guess I would base my tip on how my expectations were exceeded? You already paid $X.XX for XX days of hunting which includes XX services.

Did you get any extra days?
Did the outfitter work hard to be sure you saw game?
Did he/she meet or exceed all the the services promised in the base package?
Did you have the time of your life?

From there, I would judget how much of a tip I would leave. I don’t know that I would follow the same rules I use in the food service industry, 15%. That could be another $750.00 on a $5000.00 hunt. Then again, if I shot a ginormous elk and had the best hunt of my life, I might.
