They’re bullet-proof. Probably one of the better products ever made for pushing a boat at trolling speeds.

What boat you putting it on? You need a big rig to need more thrust than the T8 can generate.

I agree with James. You see boats with a lot of colors for main motors, and many of them have the silver T-8 next to them. Very easy to install a Trollmaster on as well and tie it into your main motor.

I’ve had T8s on my last two boats (17 foot tin and 18.5 foot glass). They are *slightly* cold blooded, and I had one wrinkle with the shifter failing to engage on my previous motor.

Having said that, I’ll be running T8s for the forseeable future.

Do they make any other kickers??????
    T8 all the way.

    My 2 cents.

My T-8 was never even close to being cold blooded as some have reported. Not sure why??? My “guess” is I also used the T-8 as the main motor on a 14 ft jon boat for a couple of winter seasons. Possibly running the motor hard wot for a bunch of hours had something to do with it? Never know.

Here is another testimonial to how tuff these motors are. My T-8 sat under water for 20 plus hours. (Another story…. ) When we got ‘er out, took it to the dealer they pretty much changed the oil, hooked up to a fresh gas line and started it up. Ran fine! I would not hesitate to buy another one.

So far, I don’t have anything but positive experience with my T-8. I have the troll master hooked up as well. Didn’t think I would use that feature that often, but once I started using it, I very rarely run the kicker from the back of the boat.

I recently bought a boat with a 2003 T8 with remote controls. The motor runs like a top and I’m excited for the fall trolling bite. The only thing I do not care for at all is the bracket that holds the shifting and throttle cable at the motor. It flexes when pressure is exerted from the cables when turning and the throttle linkage moves as a result which makes speed vary (which obviously can be good when intended). Last night as a matter of fact I made a modification to reinforce the bracket and I am anxious to try it out. If it doesn’t work, and maybe even if it does, I am going to get a trollmaster so I don’t have to worry about unwanted speed changes. Otherwise, as far as kickers go, there is no other motor I’d want on the back of my boat.

As far as the “issues” one hears about concerning the T8…cold blooded, varying speed, idles to high can be prevented.

Cold blooded, there is a starting sequence that prevents it…pump the bulb till hard…work the throttle wide open 4 times while in neutral, the 4th time leave it cracked 1/2-3/4 throttle. Choke and start it. It will rev up, just bring it back to idle.

Varying speed…the bracket can be modified with pieces of steel plate tacked in place at the 90’s. It will help prevent the varying speed. Most of the time it’s the cables, which are most often the black teleflex cables which are to short on top of them being junk. The longer yamaha cables will most often take care of the issue. If not, one can tack plates to the bracket or buy a trollmaster. If you have this issue the trollmaster will not prevent it at slow “just in gear” speeds.

Idles to high…there is a plate on the carb that covers the adjustment. It can be drilled out(carefully) and adjusted to give a lower rpm.

Mine has been “cold blooded”, the starting sequence works. I’ve also had the varying speed issue up till this spring when I had new, longer yamaha cables installed. It no longer does it.

My T8 is a great little motor, runs like a top, wouldn’t be without it. Knock on wood!

The only comparable motor I’m aware of is the Merc 9.9 pro kicker. I’ve run them both and can honestly say I would buy either based on price. However, if they were the same price, I lean towards T8. I’ve also heard rumors Suzuki is coming out with a competitor, but have yet to see one. Besides, I wouldn’t buy a brand new product on the market when you have a tried and true proven beast.

other than the bracket being weak, as stated above, many people have to rebuild their carbs on these motors. If you google search, or even search here, you’ll find what needs to be done when the carb acts up.

Comparing to the Merc Pro kicker, like Kooty was saying, The feature I prefer Merc has, is the straps to keep it centered while stowed.

I got this in an email today from a friend of a friend.

    Congrats to the hunter!

“He scores 239 6/8″ 34″ wide with a 221″ frame and 44 4/8″ of mass. And he has only a 4 1/2″ G4 on the left side and 1″ of G1’s (eye guards) If he had normal length on those things he’d be close to 260”. The right side horn scores 116 4/8″ by itself. We worked pretty hard to get this buck and I couldn’t be happier. The strip is a pretty tough place to hunt under good conditions so this year was extremely tough.
