Minnkota Trolling Motor Help

Bought a boat which came with an older Power Drive. It’s an old model and not compatible with the auto pilot. I would like to replace it with something that has remote capability. Obviously the terrova networked with a couple Helix units would be nice, but I don’t have the cash. What’s the best option to go with? My current system is also 12v and although I’m not totally against switching to 24v if I could find a new option that’s 12v that would be the easiest switch. I don’t have the best grasp on what the newer models all encompass regarding I-pilot, spot lock and such. Anybody capable of giving me a run down.

In order to have spot lock it’ll have iPilot. Terrova is going to be your best choice. If you don’t use the foot pedal you can maybe find a new one without it a save some cash.

you can get a 12V MK Powerdrive with I-pilot, if you want to stay with a 12V setup.

So if you get the power drive with ipilot and don’t network it to a graph, you just run it off of the remote?

Yes, you use the remote and they work great. I don’t have my troller linked to the graph and I do not believe I ever will.

The price difference between the Terrova and Power Drive is not much. I’ve had both and would highly recommend getting the Terrova. Better (easier) system to deploy the motor and you can use the “jog” feature on the remote.

Ok guys thanks for the info. Not to be too much of a bother but what does shaft length do for you? Is it better to get the longest available?

Shaft length matters, since it keeps the propeller in the water, rather than lifting out in wavy conditions. Usually, more is better, unless the amount of shaft sticking up would bother you.

I’m in the market for a new to me trolling motor for my Jon boat. Let me know if you want to sell it. Might help take the sting out of buying a new one.
