Looking to upgrade My alumacraft competitor 175 trolling motor. I can only do the 80lb 24v. Want ipilot link. The terrova in this class has 60” shaft. The ultrex in this class is 52”. Ny concern is if the 52” shaft would be long enough with this boat. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated

I think the competitor is a v hull? need longer shaft or your motor will pop out of bigger water unless you are a bass guy? if you bass fish and cast all day then the ultrex is what you want, but if you fish bigger water and rely on spot lock and the link , then go terrova. ultimately longer is better and there were times fishing last fall in the Rainy river that 60″ wasn’t long enough at times with the rollers.

For that boat,I would go with Terrova 72″ shaft.60 may work, but good to have extra just in case.

Terrova! Unless you’re a bass guy.

Don’t go 52″. It’s long enough some days but not all. If you’re in waves and especially any waves where you’re not in the bow you’ll want 60″ or more.

Quick check on minnkota’s site, there is a 24 volt ultrex in 60″ shaft and 24v Terrova can go 60″ or 72″.

For reference I have that same hull and 24v/60″ Terrova combo. Overall pretty happy. I don’t fish real big water, if I did then I might consider the 72″ version.

The Ultrex is a hybrid/cable drive mostly designed for bass boats. It has a huge pedal and it will be difficult to use unless you have a recessed area for it on the front deck.
