bought a used minnkota powerdrive with the co pilot yesterday for my new to me 16 foot mirrocraft tiller boat. the unit has the 60 inch shaft and the trolling motor will be very large for the boat. wondering if there is a way to swap the shafts out or cut the shaft to be smaller, have seen a few videos on the ole youtube but wanted to see if anyone on here has actually done this or knows of someone who would be willing to show a young guy how to do it.

A long time ago I had somebody shorten one of mine. I don’t even recall who did it or what they did. crazy I know it worked fine so it can be done. Maybe call somebody like Fish Electronics and ask what they would charge.

I’m guessing the trolling motor didn’t come with the boat? You might want to run the boat a few times first to be sure it really needs to be shortened. You can always shorten it later, but becomes harder to lengthen once you chop a piece off. grin
