Minnkota I-Pilot remote question?

Can an I-Pilot remote be paired to the I-Pilot Link trolling motor to be used as a backup?
They are both bluetooth remotes.

Not sure what you are asking. I have the I Pilot Link on my Ultrex and do everything from the remote. I don’t use the pedal at all.

I have an I-Pilot Link bluetooth trolling motor and I-Pilot Link bluetooth remote.
What I am asking is if I can use an I-Pilot bluetooth remote as a second remote for backup. I suspect if it pairs, I will get the reduced functionality.

That’s a good question. I think I remember reading/hearing once that you can NOT use a ipilot remote on a Link motor but I’m not certain. And since it’s Johnson Outdoors it would make too much sense for it to work so it likely won’t work.

Related to the last sentence, why couldn’t they make the charging port on the Link remote a standard USB-C or micro instead of the stupid two tiny contact dots/prongs? That really annoys me.

How to pair a Bluetooth i-Pilot Link Remote (2017 & Newer)

An i-Pilot Link Motor Control Head may pair up to 3 remotes. These three remotes can be a combination of standard i-Pilot Link remotes and Micro
remotes. Any additional remotes can be paired using the following steps. Once the maximum number of remotes have been paired, the controller will
start replacing a new remote with the oldest paired remote in memory.
1. Press the Home button.
2. Scroll through the Content Area using either your finger or the Screen Navigation button to find the System button.
3. Select the Sytem button using either your finger or by pressing the Ok button to open the System Menu.
4. Once in the System Menu, scroll through to gind the Pairing option. Before selecting the Pair Option, locate the Pair Button on
the top of the Motor Control Head. Press and hold the Pair button. A consistent tone will be emitted from the Motor Control Head.
5. On the remote, select the Pairing option. The remote will scan for the motor. Once successfully paired, 3 longer beeps will be
emitted from the Motor Control Head and the remote will be paired.

At least with the link you can actually recharge it. I believe my new ipilot terrova remote can only run on batteries. Could be wrong tho- I’d have to go look at it again
