MinnKota 40PD Help – Switches on, but propeller doesn't turn

I have a used Minnkota 40PD on a Jon Boat. It was working very well until yesterday. There is plenty of battery power. The propeller turns with my hand very easily. When I switch the motor on with the foot pedal, I can hear the switch try to turn on, but nothing happens with the motor. I just hear the click. Any suggestions how to diagnose or fix?

Remove prop and check shear pin first.

either you have a board issue or a pedal issue .. my guess would be a board issue tho , if you can find another pedal to try first do it , if still doesnt work it is the board and if I can find mine I have a brand new I would part with at a fair price.

    Let me know Jeff

X 2 waytogo forgot about that, but if the shear pin is bad you should be able to see the holding nut turn while holding the prop and turn on trolling motor

Hey Guys, thanks for the help.

I checked the shear pin and it is ok. I took the propeller off and it looks good.

When I press the pedal, the motor clicks once like it is trying to turn on, but nothing else happens. So this could be a board? I am not familiar with motors. Is there a way to test? Is this easy to replace? Costly?

Jeff, you said you have an extra one. Cost?

    Thanks much

If you would PM me your model number I will look and see if my board will fit your sand then we go from there on price

Not sure what I am looking for on model number but these pics are what I can find. Does this tell you what you need to know?

When you switch it on and give it a spin by hand does it continue to run?
One of the things this would indicate would be a dirty commutator on the motor.
