MinnKota 2 Bank Digital On Board Charger

Just purchased one of these to put on my boat.
Mounted it, hooked the cables up to battery and then plugged it in. Solid red-check connection light is on.

    – removed cables and used a brush to get the little corrosion there was off the terminals
    – re-connected cables
    – checked fuses and both are good.
    – This is an older battery but checked volts and it’s at 12.45, which is not far from fully charged.
    – plugged it back in and red light is still showing.

This is a 2 bank but I only have one bank hooked up. That wouldn’t have anything to do with it would it?

    Any other troubleshooting tips?

    Thanks!

Only having one hooked shouldn’t be the problem. Since you have a two bank try the other leads on the battery. If one bank works and the other doesn’t the charger is bad.

Ok, I should’ve done that before but didn’t.

Also, if I’m only using one bank, do I need to put electrical tape or anything over the metal connectors for the one not in use? Or are they ok to just lay next to the charger?

    Thanks!

Don’t know if you have to but I’d either wrap them or take the fuse out so there is nothing to worry about.

Here are a couple photos. I did mount it “upside down“ because my battery is on left side of boat and easier for wires to that side. Manual said it can be installed any way.

Some chargers don’t like one set of leads disconnected, they recommend that all leads are being used.Should be no problem using both leads on one battery.Even Minn Kota claims to do that for one battery.

I’m guessing it’s telling you to check the connections since one of the banks isn’t connected to anything.

I thought the same thing but then I saw this on their website.

I’ll try both sets of leads on one battery this morning.

Do you know that the bank that is connected isn’t charging?
