Minnesota Vikings 2019 Season Thread

The problem as I see it, is that they are not playing to “win”, they are playing “to not lose”. And when you play that way, the one big play will kill you every time, just like the 90 yard run did yesterday. This is Zimmer’s way, and why he has never won in the playoffs.

I was a big supporter of Zim, and still think he is a good coach. But I am starting to agree with Tom Bernard and KFAN, if they do not do something in the playoffs this year, its time for the GM and coaching staff to be unemployed. The door is closing fast in the talent they have, and have been underachieving too many years now.

It was actually a pretty good game. Very close and nice to see the Vikings compete in a close one vs. not showing up and getting embarrassed.

My problem again… comes down to the 2 minute drill. They had all the time in the world with 2:30 on the clock and two timeouts. All they needed was some type of drive and any score to win. But… they went 3 and out. Good coach and QB combos find a way to win in that scenario most of the time… but the Vikings never do. And I mean never.

Anyone catch captain kirk yelling “I’M TRYING” like a little baby coming off the sideline? I would hope “trying” is the bare minimum. Try harder lol

Pretty sure he was yelling at Treadwell to KEEP RUNNING as he stopped his crossing route 10 yards short of the sideline on a third down. Kirk played well I thought, with a few mistakes, but Stefanski called a terrible game. He kept going back to screens and bootleg’s when the Chiefs were all over them almost all game (we hit a few nice ones early), and then called a screen/boot on 4 of the last 6 plays when we went 3 and out twice. Maybe Kirk should have audibled out, but those were dumb plays to send in to begin with at that point. Thankfully the Pack got smoked by a worse team, so the division is still up in the air.

Exactly. Was Cousins great? No. Did he cost them the game? No. He actually kept them in it. After the start he had I thought he turned it around and did pretty well.

Time and time again, this team goes away from what’s been working on offense and has a dud of a game like yesterday. How were they winning over the streak? Running the ball, short quick hitting throws and the occasional deep shot. None of which we saw yesterday. The coaching was atrocious yesterday along with the defense.

They played a team with a winning record, what did everyone expect?

I had a feeling after last week’s loss that the Vikes were going to win this week. I didn’t expect Dak to play out of his mind. After Hughes dropped that sure pick 6 that would have put us up 21-0, Dak played about as good as a quarterback can play. His QBR was a smoking 87.5 for the game. Dallas gave us their A-game at home just like we got KC’s A-game last week. It was a very impressive victory.

It sucks that Denver had a bye this week. The Vikings may very well be beatable next week if Denver’s preparation is on point.

Huge win! Unfortunately the naysayers will probably find something else to excuse a huge win on the road against a winning team in prime time. I thought we left a lot on the table, especially defensively, but some of those plays you have to tip your hat to Dak for keeping them alive and throwing on the run like a MLB ShortStop.

Honestly I didn’t care for the fact that with 3 or 4 minutes left in the game we could have gone down to score and finished them off, but instead we punted. Giving their offense a chance to go get a game winning touchdown with plenty of time. Kinda the Vikings MO to think their defense can win it for them when rarely it does.

Having said that it was a very good game. I was glad to see them simply compete and not fold under pressure. Cousins had a good game and Rudolph had an insane game and really helped carry the team on some key scores. Hopefully this gets the monkey off Cousins back to some degree and they can focus on chasing down the Packers.

Great game but word is out in the league that our secondary is a liability. It will be interesting to see what Zimmer can do to fix it, good thing it’s his specialty…

I don’t know about you but i’m really getting tired of seeing Rhodes throw his hands up and complain to the Vikings sideline everytime he gets toasted on coverage…Hard to believe how fast he’s gone downhill…

They were not good yesterday, but that’s the last thing I’m super worried about. First of all yesterday they were stopping Zeke, and whatever exposure in the secondary came as a result, they were fine with, and it worked we won. Secondly we just got Hughes and Hill back, so they may take a game or two to get up to full speed. Finally Rhodes has been marginal at best this year, and he is paid to be a shutdown corner like he once was. If he doesn’t pick it up, I’d use him in spots on big WR’s that he usually does well against, and roll with Waynes, Alexander, Hill and Hughes the rest of the time.

Curious? How did Wayne’s become considered a player that is better than good? He covers good but he still wont tackle worth a darn. If someone can show me 2 plays where he has lowered his shoulder and actually takled a guy dead on I wont think he is a liability. He’s like a cat walking in water.

Because Cornerbacks are judged on their coverage skills, not their tackling skills, and Waynes is the best cover corner on the Vikes defense, which is still top 10. Last CB paid for tackling was probably Antoine Winfield.

Top ten? Boy the league has gone down hill.:eek
No way could I put him in the same league as Winfield, Carl Lee, Neewman or even Snoot. The days of yesteryear are hard not use as a benchmark for good play.

The Vikings Defense is a top ten defense this year, and has been every year under Zimmer. I wasn’t saying Waynes was a top 10 CB, but I’d take him over Smoot in every way, shape and form.

I have no way to validate, but Waynes has made some GREAT open field tackles on RBs and WRs the past couple years. Maybe not in a ‘lower your shoulder and bull them over’ type fashion, but in a ‘wow that was a great effort and if you miss that tackle that guy has another 10 yards of open field.’

I think our secondary is much less of an issue when our blitzes get home quick. They picked up the blitz and Dak avoided pressure extremely well last night. It seemed like every time we blitzed we’d get burned for a big play, and when we didn’t blitz, they’d just throw to Amari Cooper wherever he was(usually open).

I was impressed that our last TD drive we basically just ran the ball over and over again and punched it in. We NEED to find a way to pickup first downs in the final 5 minutes of games though. Two weeks in a row where 1 or 2 first downs seals the game and we just can’t get it done. Don’t know if it’s just too conservative of play calling or what, but better teams shut the game down.

Haha maybe! Like I said, I would have no way to validate/invalidate, but I actually had the exact opposite opinion of you when it came to Waynes.

Wayne is one of the better tacklers on the defense. He just can’t cover anybody.

At this rate the back-up punter will come off the bench…..Britton Colquitt will need a reliever

They just had Denver on an obvious offside and a free play…. what does Kirk do? Check down to the full back for a zero gain. Are you friggin serious???

Horrible, horrible effort so far. Totally unacceptable to lay an egg at home against a 3-6 team

I need a reliever from watching this game. Going out to skin a deer and quarter it.

Should have never been in that situation, but that comeback was fun.

Kearse has played better since his arrest than Rhodes has all season.

Hi, my name is Dan, I’m from MN. I declared the Broncos to be victorious after the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters today. I’d like to think I don’t have a problem, but, maybe…….

Still a perfect 5-0 at home. The showdown with the sea chickens in 2 weeks is looming large.

Nice to see them come back and get the W……. but man….. not so sure about this team sometimes. I don’t think we have much of a chance up in Seattle…. so it was good that they didn’t blow it today. Very close to disaster

Denver’s preparation was definitely on point and the Vikes were beatable this week just like I thought they might be. I can’t say I had much faith in Kirk completing the comeback, but he did. Good for him and the whole offensive staff.
