They tried, they got the best option available at the time (I’m assuming there will be a “what about Case?” follow-up to this). And it really isn’t working that well. They have a lot of flaws and he isn’t losing games single-handedly, but we did kind of pay him to win them, and they’re not.I think a big thing that a lot of people maybe took for granted (myself included) was the intangible affect Keenum had on the rest of the team. At the time we signed Cousins, he definitely looked like a more well rounded QB on paper, but he just doesn’t have that fire that Keenum seemed to show during big spot moments. Keenum would be visibly fired up; ready to go punch the other team square in the mouth, and the team rallied around that. How many times does Cousins have to stand at the podium after a loss with the “golly gee, I really need to play better,” attitude?
At this point it seems Cousins has lost the confidence of the rest of the team (reasonably so), and save for a miraculous 8-0 run moving forward here, I don’t see a way in which he can earn that back.
I have to agree with this. Cousins may be more talented, but Keenum might have been the better fit for this team. Hindsight is 20/20.
