Just read that we cut that kicker we paid a 5th rd pick for. Horrible horrible GM move right there.

Is this a real statistic?? OH MY goodness!Yes. He has a bunch of come from behind victories (12), but none by more than 1 pt against a team with a winning record.
Not sure about this.
Bears at Packers last year.
Start of the 4th quarter it was 20-3 bears.
Packers won 24-23.Bears were 12-4 last year…
Well at the time of that game there were 0-0 so his stat is accurate. They don’t go back and adjust stats based on future outcomes.
I suppose playoffs don’t count either?

I agree. I think the early-to-mid period of Spielman’s tenure saw some good moves and mostly good draft picks, but this past year has brought some head-scratchers.
Going into the offseason they had to figure out the TE situation and make major upgrades to the offensive line. What they did was re-sign Rudolph AND spend precious early-round draft capital on another TE. Personally I don’t think we needed both and the combination of money and draft capital could have been better spent in part on the O-Line. That said, I enjoy football from a recliner so I will give them the benefit of the doubt because they know more and better than I do.
Then the whole kicking situation as you mentioned, this to me just reeks of Zimmer knowing there’s a glaring problem but not being in touch enough (which is fine and understandable) with the specialty-ness of kicking and/or punting. 2018 and 2020 fifth-round picks have gone to kickers with nothing to show for them (not to mention Blair Walsh being something of a mid-round pick). I’m fine with bringing in competition and even giving up a little something but this was too much for nothing this year.
Having said that…I will always maintain, at least nowadays, that the Vikings are at least trying to win, and win now/relatively soon, and sometimes that adds some urgency to what they’re doing and they try too hard and swing and miss on a few.
September 2, 2019 at 10:01 pm #1876957The guy made 12 of 13 field goals in Baltimore then comes here and shanks all his chances. WTF! I read that there were multiple teams interested in trading for him so a 5th is really not that big of a deal. I think admitting a mistake and cutting him instead of trying to make it work and fail would have been far worse.

My hope would be that you’ve evaluated a player enough that 2 weeks in camp isnt gonna change your mind. The fact that it did tells me they are either displaying a lack of patience or they didnt do their homework. Either way it was a huge failure and all picks are valuable. Aside from a good coaching staff, getting guys to give you valuable minutes on a rookie contract and securing a franchise QB are the two biggest keys to success in the NFL.

They are very consistent
September 3, 2019 at 8:28 am #1876989This is the official over/under win total for the NFC North in Las Vegas this week:
Bears 9.5
Packers 9
Vikings 9
Lions 6So based on that, Vegas thinks the Bears are a 0.5 game favorite to win the division.

Supposedly the Bears were trying to get him as well, so Spielman threw a 5th rounder to possible get better at the position and block the division champs from improving one of their biggest weaknesses. Obviously didn’t work out, but not a big deal imo, and I give Spielman credit for cutting his losses (as he has done a number of times). He also does a great job trading for picks, so it’s likely they get that pick back at a later date anyway.
September 3, 2019 at 12:02 pm #1877044You can only evaluate them in real game situations so not that easy with guys who have such a small sample size. Bailey is pretty dang good and a pro so I don’t know what kind of message they trying to send?
September 3, 2019 at 1:31 pm #1877063Bailey used to be good. I thought he pretty much sucked last year, but hoping he has a better year. Maybe if he falters we can bring in Carli Lloyd, LOL
September 8, 2019 at 4:45 pm #18780581-0 to start the season. Pretty dominant first half and a noticeably improved running game.
September 8, 2019 at 6:22 pm #1878068As I said in a different thread, the Vikings should be able to handle the dirty birds at home. Agreed they looked good. Next week will be a much tougher test
September 8, 2019 at 8:26 pm #1878083I’m not pulling my lawn chair out of the firepit quite yet.
I’m not a Cousins guy.
He has weird stats, he can throw for miles and miles but he fumbles a lot of can’t win any big games.blankPosts: 1776September 8, 2019 at 8:35 pm #1878085I’m not pulling my lawn chair out of the firepit quite yet.
Do you have two chairs? A Twins chair and a Vikings chair?
September 8, 2019 at 11:52 pm #1878104The Packers are going to struggle to keep it within a couple scores next weekend. The Vikings roster is substantially better no matter how anyone looks at it. The “Rodgers Factor” is enough to get them by some bad teams and a few decent ones alone, but the Vikings are a good team with balance and depth. The interior of the Packers OL was attricuous in picking up any zone blitzes against Chicago. Look for Zimmer to further exploit this. Historically he has come after Rodgers versus playing Cover 2 or 3 packages rushing just 4 and letting Rodgers audible to zone beaters.
I’m not buying the Packers early defensive results with such a small sample size. I do think they have made strides though on that side of the ball.

I’m not sure about this, the Packers Defense (D-Line in particular) looked significantly better, and the Bears O-line isn’t terrible (like Trubisky is). I agree the Vikes have a better overall roster, but I don’t think it’s by a wide margin esp if you put more value on the QB position, as I do. Add in that it’s at Lambeau and I anticipate a very close game.
September 9, 2019 at 9:56 am #1878171I really wish the Vikes would stop the post TD dance routines. Especially in game one….

September 10, 2019 at 2:32 pm #1878454In case you guys didn’t know. The kicker we cut, Kaare Vedvik missed an extra point and a FG for the NY Jets this past weekend and they lost the game 17-16. Vedvik was just cut.
Glad we dodged that bullet early!

seen that! like i said admit your mistake now. NOBODY should be drafting a kicker or punter PERIOD! some reason this team didn’t get that message. maybe now they see why?????
September 15, 2019 at 3:30 pm #1879208Brutal, absolutely brutal!
Kirk Cousins stinks.Just remember, he was the BEST guy available, and we HAD to sign him……
September 15, 2019 at 3:30 pm #1879209Skol?
I wouldn’t be ordering my playoff tickets quite yet if I was Packer fan it wasn’t exactly a stellar performance by the green and gold

Far from it…the Packers are a 9-7 team I’d say.
I don’t think anyone from the NFC North is making much of a playoff run this year. It’s just that the Vikings seem to have had the best window to get to the Superbowl for quite some time in their history (salary cap wise and retaining players). Now they’re tied to Cousins for the entirety of that window.

Not the prettiest performance, but a win is a win, especially another divisional win.
riverrunsInactivePosts: 2218September 15, 2019 at 4:59 pm #1879218Does anyone know the final score of the packer viking game today. Our cable went out and we have know way of knowing the score. Thanks.
targamanInactiveWilton, WIPosts: 2759September 15, 2019 at 7:10 pm #1879231This one had to really sting for the queen fans. The packers are now 2-0 and in first place. Undefeated.
