Cousins looked pretty sharp last night he’s got it dialed in this year, in fact I think he gets to 7 Super Bowl rings before Brady does.

I’m a self admitted Cousins backer since he was in Washington. Last year was tough to watch. I am more optimistic about his chances this year in an offense that will get him out in the open with bootlegs and some misdirection as opposed to last year’s completely stagnant play calling.

If the O-Line is better than last year (which can’t be too hard) and the play calling is really going to have him moving around the pocket more, it should be a good offensive year for Cousins and the Vikings.

A 2020 5th-round pick traded to Baltimore for a kicker. The kicking saga continues for the Vikings. The negative side of me sees a spotlight pointed at 5th-round picks being the price for kickers in both 2018 and 2020.

However for anyone that also follows the Twins, I 100% appreciate a franchise that is trying to win. They must not be happy with Bailey at all so they’re trying to get better and win now. Total 180 difference than the Twins.

Wow a 5th rd pick for a kicker!!! He had better be a multi year starter for that price!!!

He can kick field goals and punt. Zimmer wants one guy to do both jobs so he can keep another defensive back…… mrgreen

I do not trust Cousins at all. Sure he’ll get 4000yds passing but most of that will be meaningless. Just like every other year this guys been in the league. Until he shows that he won’t fold when the pressure is on I have 0 faith in him.
    Kirk Cousins Career Stats:

    Record in Primetime Games: 6-13

Record on Monday & Thursday Night: 1-12

    Record vs. Winning Teams: 5-25

Record vs. Winning Teams in 2018: 1-6

    Career Road Record: 13-23-2

    Post-season Record: 0-1

That says it all to me. I’d love to be proven wrong on him, I just don’t think it’ll happen.

Well, to be fair, he also played on an awful team in Washington for the vast majority of those “accomplishments”.

He has more weapons here and to be honest we shouldnt need him to win many games, just not lose them. If the line can hold up and the D remain solid I have no worries about him.

Besides, who would you rather have than Cousins? Keenum hasnt done anything since he left here and is now on his second team. Teddy, while a great human, is just not a good QB.

There are VERY few QBs that can take over a game and win it. Just look at Rodgers’ record and how many come from behind wins he has and he is considered by many to be one of the best QBs of all time.

Aaron Rodgers is now 0-37 when trailing by more than one point in the 4th quarter to a team with a winning record.

Agree with this. He was our best option.

He did great the first half of the year. Don’t forget he marched the team into Green Bay and basically gave us the game to win, minus our kicker who gave it away in a tie. It was the second half of the season where our O Line started getting exposed and he started getting jumpy and seeing ghosts.

Any QB would have sucked with the O Line we had last year.

He still went 1-6 against +.500 teams last year with a team that was picked to represent the NFC in the SB. They made the NFC title game with Keenum. This guy was supposed to be THE piece that put them over the top. Instead they fail to even make the playoffs and Cousins shrunk when he needed to step up. Keenum may not be as talented a QB as Cousins, but he wasn’t afraid of the big spot. He has no excuses this year. The line is better on paper, they added on offense with Smith, and Mattison, the defense is supposed to be top 5.

I did like the moxie that Keenum seemed to have. He was a bit of a gun slinger and I like that.

Time will tell on Cousins and this should be a revealing year.

I am not a Cousins apologist, but there is absolutely more to it than that. Yes, the Vikings should have made the playoffs last year, but come on, how many distractions were there that seem to plague this team? Sparano died during training camp, the epic failure of our Offensive Coordinator, Cook couldnt get healthy, Griffen had his breakdown, kicker distractions, and the O line was absolutely trash.
Yes, other teams deal with garbage like this but to put all of their success or failure at the feet of the QB is just utterly ridiculous.

The Vikings missed the playoffs not because of Cousins, they missed the playoffs despite his play.

Cousins passed for more yards, more TD, higher completion % than Keenum did with us, yet, people fall back on how “great” Keenum was? It wasnt that Keenum was “great” it was because they won.

I will toss the last coat of epoxy on your Viking rod tonight. This way you can shake the rod (jig) instead of your head. I don’t want you to hurt your neck again this year.

Yes. He has a bunch of come from behind victories (12), but none by more than 1 pt against a team with a winning record.

I think it’s really ironic that when Cousins was slinging the ball into every tight window there was for the first half of the year, the Vikings fans were all over him for turning the ball over. Then he gets hammered for about 12 straight games and he goes ultra conservative because he was already getting hammered for fumbling and now they’re all over him for not throwing the ball.

Yes, Cousins has never won a big game. NO he has never been on a good enough team to have a chance. Look at his big game losses in DC and see what Washington’s defense did for him. Zip.

Fast forward to last season with the Vikings. No offensive line which is the ONLY REASON Keenum had more success because he is more maneuverable. That idiot OC we had last year just had him dropping back and standing there waiting to get crushed. Whenever we got him out on bootlegs we saw big plays. That’s what you are going to see this year. At least that’s what they’ve been saying.

I’m fine with the criticisms of Cousins, but you have to tell the whole story of the horrible O-lines he’s had, the horrible OC’s he’s played under, and the horrible defense and receivers he had in DC.

Need a bigger sample size with Kirk. His stats were the best of his career last year but he mostly just beats up on losing teams. The running game needs to improve, and it looks to be better so far this pre-season. A consistent running game keeps the ball in control and allows the defense to rest and stay fresher. I think Mattison will play a key role in this because Cook is going to get hurt and he isn’t a ground pounder.

They finally finally released Treadwell. He should not have been on the team last year, I’m not sure what took so long. How did he even make it to the NFL, the guy dropped more passes than he caught. Glad he is gone, good riddance

    Not sure about this.
    Bears at Packers last year.
Start of the 4th quarter it was 20-3 bears.
    Packers won 24-23.

    Bears were 12-4 last year…

Well at the time of that game there were 0-0 so his stat is accurate. They don’t go back and adjust stats based on future outcomes.
