Is it possible the lack of attraction to the “Governors Opener” this year was the guest of honor? I remember Governors Openers from way back because I had more interest in the Governor than I do now. Some of them made fishing a priority and were actually avid outdoorsman (Gov. Arne Carlson for example) and some were marketing and just plain fun to see what would happen (Gov. Jesse Ventura).
I truly believe it is an awesome program for any community to host. The benefits , I believe, can heavily weigh on how the “guest of honor” presents himself leading up to it. If he is genuinely excited to experience the wonderful fishing MN has to offer I believe that “feeling” will trickle down to all of us.
