Minneapolis Boat Show

Does anyone here go check this out?

It’s been a couple years since my wife and I have went. Everything affiliated with it and nearby is overpriced, it is a bit of a headache taking the time to drive there, but the last time we went we did get to see some cool things and see everything we were interested in for a tritoon in one spot.

The Mrs. thinks we need to upgrade the tritoon to something different now…and if she’s suggesting going I’ll probably cave and spend an afternoon there.

I go almost every year. I like looking at boats. I live about 15 miles away and I’m familiar with the Convention Center area so its no big deal. I try to go when there’s less people.

There are some decent booths there with free stuff too. One year Flo from Progressive was there and I got a photo. lol

Treasure Island has a wheel of fortune there too. They have some good prizes on it. Last year I won a $50 food gift card and my wife won a $25 gambling token.

If you walk out of the boat show with anything less than a 44’ quadtoon with a half dozen 600hp mercs on it you will lose your IDO card.

I find it’s best to go every 2-3 years and let everything refresh a bit (refill our supply of floaty keychains and drink koozies) otherwise you’ll see the same things over and over again…this is a no go year for me…

A few years ago I was looking for a specific model/color of a new Alumacraft tiller. I spent hours upon hours researching, figured I had called every dealer within 500 miles looking for exactly what I wanted. Nothing. Went to the boat show, asked one of the Alumacraft reps, and he was able to find it available, and exactly what I wanted in minutes. Called the dealer and put money down later that afternoon. If you’re in the market at all its a no brainer.

That’s kind of what I was thinking. It’s been a while so there’ll be new stuff to see. The boss asked tonight where the title to the tritoon is and if I had any pictures of it…so she must be serious. As much as I don’t see a need for a new one, the happy wife happy life thing is very real

The last time I was there was 2020. Bought a 1875 ProGuide. Good timing right before the Covid shutdown and prices skyrocketed. yay

^My buddy has one, and that may be the most versatile fishing boat I’ve ever fished out of. Small water, big water, trolling, back trolling, casting, drifting, it just works for everything and has a ton of open space. Crazy what they cost now though I’m sure.

I went this morning for a couple hours. There seems to definitely be more of a trend towards souped up/luxury pontoons and other recreational boats than fishing boats.

One luxury yacht had a sold sticker on it and the price tag was over $600k. shock

I had to pick up a trailer up by the cities so we took a detour and made a morning of it. I agree with your assessment. The Mrs. was in one tritoon that she liked and got an out the door price and trade in value for ours, but ultimately seemed to talk herself out of it with minimal input from me.

Pontoons have really come along in recent years! I used to think of a slow, putzy, party barge with a 50 hp outboard when I think of a pontoon. It’s hard to actually find one like that nowadays. They’re all much bigger with more powerful motors now.
