Minneapolis area Volvo Marine Mechanic?

    Hi there,

    I have found a used boat in Greater Minneapolis that I am considering buying. And I think I want it, but I would like a mechanic to do a compression and leakdown test, as well as put the outdrive, bilge and fuel system thru their paces. Challenge is, it’s a Volvo AQ (early 90s Volvo Dual Prop with 2k hours)…and seems like Volvos are not super common in the upper Midwest.

    The local dealer is backed up for over 6 weeks. If anyone has any recommendations for a good Volvo mechanic (or a good surveyor who could point me to a good Volvo mechanic), I’d appreciate it.

    Boat is about 30 minutes due east of Minneapolis, near the St Croix River.

    Any leads are appreciated.

    Thanks

    PS: For the price point going to bypass a full survey as my trusty moisture meter says the hull is dry

    EVERY marine mechanic is booked out weeks and weeks this time of year.

    You could offer triple-time to your dealer…..or just get in line. Not a good time to get something done in a hurry.

    One of the recommended Merc mechanics from this board is available in about 2 weeks…but I did not know if there was a Volvo mechanic this board recommended.

    Thanks

    @B-man,
    If a dealer would take an offer to push ahead your boat after the offer of 3x’s, He would never get my business!!

    Now on the other hand I have been on a trip with a short time line of less than a week and I had an issue, the boat shop got me worked in to see it it was something of a quick fix, that would say be an hour or two, and got me on my way. That is different in my mind. Reason is, greed did not become a factor and it was just pure customer service and good business.
