I have a 1700 explorer ss and am looking at upgrading to an ulterra. Is the 60 inch shaft going to be long enough? I thought I read somewhere with the way its built it may not be quite long enough on rougher water. Has anyone experienced this?

    60″ shaft will be plenty

Warning, if at all possible, mount the head to lay on the port side. Mine lays on the starboard side and the motor housing is so tall that it is a vision blocker when stowed and running on plane.

Great point. I just got lucky (50/50 chance) when I mounted mine.

I have a ulterra with a 60” shaft on a 13’ 1825 pro guide. Wish it were longer. It comes out of the water way to much. Does not take much of a chop and the motor is spitting water in the air and not pulling the boat forward. Not sure if they make a longer shaft on the ulterra or not.

I have a 60″ terrova on my Skeeter and I am replacing that with a 60″ Ulterra. The prop would seldom pop out of the water unless I was out in heavy waves.Anyone know if the Ulterra sits higher on the bow than the terrova?
After reading this post I am thinking a 72″ might be a better option.

YES, the Ulterra sits higher on the bow than the terrova.
Only the 36 volt one comes with 72″ shaft that I know of for now..

hope this helps.. maybe they will be changing this soon too.

I just sold my 1700 Pro Sport and it had a 60” shaft. Only time it came out of the water was when I got hit with a barge wake. Unless you are consistently in 3’ waves you’ll be fine.

Problem is with the self deploying motor the head automatically sits at least 6” higher on the mount to start with.

My Terrova was 54″ so I bought 54″ with Ulterra. I need it to be almost glass now not to cavitate because of that precious 6″. Also had to raise my seat box 4″ so I could see over it to drive.

Thanks guys,I would be so pissed if I spent that kind of money and have it coming out of water. I currently have a 24v powerdrive on it and seldom does it come out of the water. I don’t need a 36v and really dont have room for it and don’t want the weight but looks like I dont have any options
