Yesterday my wife and purchased a new Alumacraft Competitor 185 LE, I decided to put a Minn-Kota Terrova with I pilot link, I chose to also purchase 2 Hummingbird Helix 9’s one on the dash has DI,SI GPS, one on the bow has GPS, SONAR, my question is I purchased one SD card, will I need to purchase a second card? Do I need one for the trolling motor and one for one of the units, I am planning on having the units ethernet linked.

Only Onix units can share a map card

Are you sure we were told by numerous electronics people and sales people over the last month that if I was running the card on the dash that my bow unit would have the same capabilities even though it didn’t have SI. So I will have to purchase a 2nd card then.

I own lowrance but I would be surprised if the humminbirds couldn’t share a card. It would actually be a consideration for me if I went to humminbird…. $100 is $100….. seems odd they wouldn’t be connected together for chart plotting.

    I would just “Google” it.

The waypoints will transfer over the ethernet but the maps wont. If you want to be able to see the maps on both units you nee two of the mapping cards. Also your bow unit will be able to get the DI and SI from the other unit so you can save yourself some money there just remember that the transducer that is sending that info is 18 feet away. I would recommend getting the zero lines card so that you can map more of the lakes yourself using the built in autochart live. Other than that you should be ready to rock.

You may also consider doing the transducer swap with humminbird to get the HD transducer that comes with the helix 10 and not the helix 9. It will cost you about $85 but will get you much better resolution in the DI and SI. The transducer has to be in its original packaging in order to do the exchange just so you know. Something to think about at least.

I am using almost the same setup out of my lund with a helix 9 sonar/gps combo out of the bow with a helix 10 SI at the helm with a terrova 80lb link all networked together. It is a slick setup and you’ll like it a lot.

    Congrats on your new boat!
