Minn Kota driving me insane

I don’t want to bash minn kota they are a great company. With that I’ll begin. So, last season we purchased a minn kota fortrex 60″ shaft, 112lb thrust to put on a 2008 ranger 620. Long story short, that big spring (bow guard) keeps on ejecting itself from the bell housing and basically leaves ya incapacitated for fishing. Plus trying to get that big motor backup into its housing is a real b*%$!. Well this has happened a total of 4 times and each time minn kota insisted i take it in to get fixed which i did, only to have the repairs last for 2 days-2weeks. Last repairs were done before winterizing. Got on the water for the first time this season to start prepping for SBOBT and that spring ejects again! Basically I have no trolling motor for the week, no practice for SBOBT, and now I have to call minn kota again. I am really getting fed up with this as I am quite sure they plan to tell me to take it in for repairs again which will again result in another malfunction and even more time spent not fishing. I need some suggestions on how to end this cycle!! At what point is minn kota going to admit they gave me a lemon motor and reimburse me!? I refuse to take it in for repairs again because it will not fix the problem!

First off, its O.K. to bash Minnkota. They are not all that. I would insist on a new motor from them before the waranty runs out. Also document, document, document everytime it breaks down, every time you are without your motor, every time it goes in for repairs. I went through all this and if you dont react with anger and swift negative reaction towards them you will end up with a pile of crap and nothing to show for it and few choices when deciding what to buy next.

Another idea if you continue to put up with the crap motor: if you are still in your waranty period buy the extended warranty. It will be the best money you ever spent. Atleast it will give you 2 more years of extended coverage for every time it breaks down. Should pay for itself the first repair into the extension.

Go to motor clinic in Bloomington Minnesota. That guy is a minn Kota wizard. He’s a great guy as well always fixed my stuff fast if you tell him your situation.

Good news and bad news. Good news the new motor is coming! Bad news its out of stock and I’ll have to struggle through 3 weeks of prime fishing time..Should have got it right the first time…

The only tournament where 1 bad day completely cuts you out of the money! Sitting in 90th! But if we catch 5 8lbers we might have a shot! Could have been worse could have had no fish. We stood our ground the best we could with no trolling motor!
