My motor works just fine at the lower speeds but when I run it on 10 for awhile it will kick out the 60 amp breaker. The battery is new the wire to the receptical to plug in is about 8ft. Its getting hot but the manual says to use a 60 amp breaker and I would thiing it should be alright. The wire is the standered cable for electic motors. does that make sense that you can’t run it on hight for extended time?

I’m not sure what “standard cable for electric trolling motors” is. Wire size is rated in gauge and the gauge you need should be listed in the manual for your trolling motor.

Based on the fact that it’s getting hot and you’re tripping a 60A breaker you most likely will need to increase your wire size (lower gauge number).

You also should be looking at your plug & socket, if they are not up to the task, they can cause excessive resistance and increased amp draw. Many OEM units leave a lot to be desired.
