Milwaukee Kings

Heading to Milwaukee on Thursday evening to target kings for the first time. Sounds like the fish are starting to move in and plan to target them in the 40-100FOW.

My questions for those who fish out there is right now the forecast is looking like 12MPH wind from the NW, gusting to 18MPH. Is that manageable for a 20ft deep v?

    Thanks

Manageable is sort of subjective to your own comfort levels…. as you already know. “IF” the winds stay NW and don’t turn from the north I would go out in my 17′ boat with the current windsurf forecast as the winds are suppose to stay westerly and trend calmer into Friday and for a couple days. That app shows a little less wind than you saw, but I’d check tomorrow or later for a better idea.

That said, it sucks big time being out too far if it gets a bit more north, and actually climbs in wind speed, but you have a little larger boat.

Last week and this week look a lot different after the blow we had over the weekend that kept many boats off the water even for the contest that was running. I think we went three days with a small craft advisory. Read the water really got mixed up and we lost some of the cold water that was sitting down like 45′ and it has been mixed and is much warmer. I was doing doing well up high last week and before.

I hope to sneak way out (175’+) Wed eve for coho and then shoot in a ways closer (150′ trolling back SW) for Kings before dusk. Seems a little quicker getting to deeper water if you head north to begin the troll. I’d then go E with the waves, before making that jump in based on what I found.

One of the “few” decent threads left on the site (my opinion) is on the Milwaukee fishing – usually some good people that are willing to help as well. http://www.lake-link.com/wisconsin-fishing-reports/lake-michigan-milwaukee-county/4215/

NOAA marine weather forecast is what we rely on when fishing lake Michigan. Gives you wind and wave conditions. Any Westerly wind around 15mph is very manageable, Any Easterly wind, even 5-10mph can build waves real quick. Forecast for Milwaukee waters this thurs and fri is waves less than a foot. Should be nice. Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply’s, it sounds like fishing might be tough with warmer water moving in, but will give it a shot!

Good luck… still better than being stuck behind a keyboard wanting to fish! Bring cleaning stuff – they have a real nice station right there at the ramp.
