Can’t remember what entity it was, but they said something to the effect of “we know a lot of you have stayed home and not evacuated the last several hurricanes and made it through. We highly recommend that you evacuate this time.”
Made it seem like the real deal.

Wasnt it Tampas mayor that said if you stay you will die.

My Parents live 2 miles in from the Sanibel island, Ian brought 10′ of storm surge and flooded the whole neighborhood. Some just finished rebuilding, now they are expecting up to 15′ flood surge. Can you imagine? Most of them said they had enough and are leaving for good.

Wow, I need to start making more claims if that’s the case

With some recent changes its going to be much harder going forward than in the past. Its also most likely going to cost you more out of your pocket than it did in the past. Watch those renewals and be sure to note some of the changes being made to policies. How roof loss’s are going to be paid out, and increased wind and hail deductibles are a few to watch out for.

A guy at work has a buddy with a float plane down there.

He’s been shuttling people he knows out of the area nonstop for the last couple days, sounds like the traffic is horrendous on the roads.

A good friend of mine was stuck on St. Thomas during Cat5 Irma in 2018, he said it was the scariest thing he’s ever been through, I’ll take a blizzard over a hurricane everyday of the week

2500/yr for 100 years is only $250,000. Just let your house burn down with everything in it and you’ll come out way ahead on premiums

A customer who had hail claims in a 5 yr. period with damage to both roof and siding on primary home and 3 out buildings will do it as well. Even those with 2 hail claims on home in siding over the last 5 years is a rather large $ amount and there were plenty of those in the St. Cloud area in the last 5 years.

X2 – Although there are not many who could not leave. Even a few Hours north or inland would really lessen the Death amounts. If I was in the area I’d drive or catch a ride into central Georgia for a few days. Even if I needed to sleep in a car or shelter. far to many people who have survived them in the past and will say they will stay and survive this one. Most will be correct, Some may not. Not worth the risk to me.

A lot of people left Tampa and went to the Orlando area because there’s so many hotel rooms there. Its still expected to be Cat 1 when it hits Orlando but that’s not nearly severe as Cat 4 on the western coastline.

Helene went through a completely different landscape than what central Florida has. Western NC is very mountanous. All that water went into the valleys and flooded everything.

I also read that they’re worried about all the debris that still hasn’t been picked up from Helene. With high winds, all this discarded debris can become pieces of flying projectiles quickly.

I was on the Honor Flight a few years ago and the WWII soldiers/sailors said they feared typhoons more than the Japanese.

I think on Kfan this morning they were taking about that, seaweed on the beaches being a big concern. They were hauling dump truck loads out trying to remove it before it hits.

There’s a lot to be said for living in the middle of the continent. No hurricanes, no earthquakes, no mudslides, floods are limited to the areas close to the major rivers. Sure, we get occasional blizzards, thunderstorms, droughts and tornados, but none of them are epic enough to have names.

I hope all the people in Florida who have decided they can hunker down and stay home survive, but that’s a choice I wouldn’t make. I’m afraid there will be some unnecessary casualties from this.

Have you not been paying attention that the weather nazis have been naming winter storms the last several years?

Sounds like it has weakened a bit before hitting land. So that is good news.
Crazy amount of tornadoes today in Florida.

Currently watching some of these idiot storm chasers – and I’m fully aware that makes me part of the problem. The footage is unreal, but their conversation is unbearable…

I wonder if there is about to be a shortage on building supplies coming soon. Everything will be sent down there. I also have no idea how home insurance companies pull a profit down there.

When they tell you that “if you are going to ride out the storm make sure you write your name on your arm so they can identify you”
    That’s scary.
This one looks like the real deal.
I have friends in the Ft Meyers area that have been hit 2 in the last couple years and looks like they will be getting hit again.

Man, I spent five years in Tampa and st Pete. I remember before Katrina and a few others boarding up windows, etc..

Still have my two half brothers and stepdad down there tho. Even though hurricanes usually ended up not so bad there, you still had to prep for them if you had half a mind.

Good ole boy MPLSpug, I believe, is living somewhere between Orlando and fort myers these days. Come on back, pug!

Lietenant Dan survived the storm in his boat. Kind of a cool story, but turns out he was a despicable person like 20 years ago. Not sure if he cleaned his act up or not. Convicted child porn, etc.

Literally Metrodome South – Terrible stadium destroyed by some of the worst weather the geographical area could receive. Will be interesting to see if they use this as an excuse, or at least a big push, to level-up on facilities.

“Not as bad as anticipated” is my first impression. . My family watched the eye go over them. Severe damage was minimal in their area. It sounds like the tornadoes did the worst damage.
I have just stated gathering info. My boss is down there too.

I kinda laugh at the “Weather Reporters” who put all the rain gear on and stand in the wind and act like they are getting blown over. Yes, there are many cases when the wind is that strong, but there’s also a TON of acting going on and exaggeration alot of other times. There’s a viral clip of a Weather Channel guy acting like he was doing all he could just to stand up and in the background is a pedestrian walking normally across the street…

Sounds like the slight turn south and it weakening a bit right before landfall helped minimize the damage. Especially in Tampa. Sarasota and Ft Myers look real wet. Crazy how many tornadoes there were.
