Heads up – Walmart online has a sale on this M18 battery at $164. Normal price is $249.

Call me stupid. Whats the difference between the high output 12ah and the forge 12ah?

Guess I answered my own question.
Forge Batteries: Ideal for high-drain tools like impact wrenches, circular saws, and reciprocating saws, where power density and weight balance are critical.
HO Batteries: Better suited for applications requiring prolonged runtime, such as drills or outdoor power equipment.
Wouldnt you opt for more run time?

Forge is slightly smaller and lighter. And by slightly I mean slightly. The power factor out of a Forge is significant however, and I believe run-time is greater as well. They can be used very effectively in all M18 tools, just some tools will show more of a difference than others.

The Forge batteries use “next gen” cells. The 6.0 uses pouch cells, and the 8.0 and 12.0 use tabless cylindrical. They can deliver higher current, accept higher charge rates, lower resistance, etc..

Just a heads up walmart.com is similar to amazon where a lot of the items are from 3rd party sellers. More than likely Milwaukee would not honor a warranty claim from one of the random 3rd party sellers, but that is a pretty good deal for a 12 amp hr battery. They would go off the serial number date to determine when the warranty starts, not the purchase date.

^^ I agree to some extent but the Forge batteries haven’t been out for too long so the shelf life shouldn’t come into play. Also Walmart provides the return policy. All the sellers are iffy to what your getting when everything comes from China.

I ended up going with the 2pk of the 6ah HO batteries versus the single 12A Forge. I went this route because I could drill a lot of holes with the original standard 5ah batteries my drill came with so 6ah HO batteries would be a step up for sure, I was also concerned about the weight of the 12ah battery if Im using the drill over my head for anything outside of ice fishing and I would rather have 2 batteries instead of 1 in case the 1 goes bad at some point, I still would have another to get me thru until I can replace the bad one

If they’re genuine Milwaukee batteries that’s a great deal. A lot of counterfeit tool batteries out there so deals through unknown marketplace vendors from amazon, ebay, walmart, etc. make me uneasy with the fire risk that knockoff lithium batteries pose.

I’m looking for the 16″ rear handle chainsaw too. It’s a retirement gift for an old farmer down the way who has been a great neighbor forever.
