Apparently this is an idea being considered by the DNR. I have no need to keep a Mille Lacs walleye myself. I have no issues with the concept provided that it absolutely does not result in a Fall closure. I only fish the lake in the Spring and Fall when I can get the eyes from shore. The Fall window is the best do to the length of the day and length of the Fall when the eyes are in shallow.

Covid shutdown the casinos for how long? Anyone know how their foot traffic has been this summer?
Quota seems inline with casino revenue. Depending if they get shutdown once flu season comes around again, and how brutally slow this winter gets for em we might even see a miraculous recovery next spring and anglers will be able to keep a couple all season.

I’m sure they’ll allow winter anglers a fish and then have another planned shutdown next summer for soft water anglers.

All sorts of issues with this in my mind. So some launches may get one and others may not? would put some businesses at a disadvantage.
Leads to more laws regs and poaching. If that guy can keep one so can?
Enforcement which probably wouldn’t be any would be a nightmare. We are going to end the season 15-20 percent below quota so maybe a July shutdown is not the best option.

There are so many lakes that give out limits of walleye. No need to be upset that you can’t keep one. 2 miles from there you can catch them all day and night and take them home

This was mentioned at the last MLFAC meeting. It sounded like it would be similar to a “tag” system by lottery.
Curious where you heard this and if you have any more information?
I myself can imagine this would cause far more issues than it might solve.

gimruis is not that he cannot keep any. He’s because there is an allowable harvest all winter season and then open water (is that acceptable terminology joneser?) is limited to C&R with an all out closure at some point.
He has vehemently voiced his displeasure consistently for some time. His “discrimination” campaign…
September 18, 2020 at 2:26 pm #1973565hen the term we need to adopt that points out how stupid they sound is,
“Soft Ice”
Hahaha, OK, soft ice it is Joneser.

Its angler discrimination!

Soft ice is is the proper juxtaposed term to hard water, not soft water. For just like water can’t be hard, unless you’re water softener is broken or you need to add salt, ice can’t be soft.
The molecule h2o in it’s solid state has it’s own specific word in the English language called “ice.” That’s why the fisherman lingo of “hard water” is so stupid. “Water” is the specific word for the liquid state of the molecule h2o. Once water gets hard it inherently is no longer called water. It has cooled down past the point where it turns from liquid to solid and become “ice.” If it was just supposed to be a fun nickname for ice then it’s equally stupid since nicknames shouldn’t add words and syllables. Ice is a three letter one syllable word. Thus, there’s no need to call it anything other than what it is, which is ice.
If we’re going to mock ice fisherman and their beloved term they use constantly that is, “hard water,” which I definitely think we should, then the term we need to adopt that points out how stupid they sound is,
“Soft Ice”
Wow dude, so I take it your not a hard water fishing fan then? You should try it some time!

I can’t speak for Joneser, but I’m not, which is part of the reason for complaining about “angler discrimination.”
I mostly just troll the ice fishing threads
September 18, 2020 at 4:08 pm #1973592Now that’s funny, maybe you should try it with someone who can occasionally find fish. It does make it a little more fun! Just having fun with ya! So I will be waiting for my new SAC’Ts t shirt as new member.
