Spent a few hours on the pond last Saturday before a tournament in the area on Sunday. It was a blast! We didn’t catch a ton but the size was absolute quality and I got my buddy on his PB. I think Mille Lacs might be my favorite lake on the planet! Tubes worked fairly fast on the tops of rocky points and reefs were the winning ticket that day.

Walleye – What’s a Walleye? Oh ya. its one of those bottom feeders that swim around with other bottom feeders like carp and catfish
August 6, 2019 at 9:11 pm #1871990Wouldn’t go that far…..If that was true I’d be coming home with a lot more winnings in my tournaments than I have been……
August 6, 2019 at 9:18 pm #1871993Mahto has an elite level mastery of <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>bass fishing…..

August 7, 2019 at 7:48 am #1872063It used to be fairly easy to catch those toads out on Mille Lacs until B.A.S.S. kept nationally ranking it so high. You could catch them on power tactics. I could catch a dozen of them in a couple hours just slicing a jerk bait or crank bait past a reef. Since that #1 ranking and those AOY tournaments that brought in those daily 25 pound bags, the secret is out big time. Now it seems like you really have to use a finesse tactic to catch them and the landings are full of bass boats every weekend. I see its still ranked in the top 10 for Central Region this year too. Ya its good that we have national prestige on these smallmouth but it has also ramped up the pressure on these fish ten fold.

You nailed it. I don’t think it’s a bad thing though. It’ll wear off in a few years again and they’ll start to get going again. Also, you can still power fish them and catch tons, just not in the middle of Summer.
August 7, 2019 at 4:56 pm #1872229Nice video Mahto, thanks for sharing! But I could only imagine how many great walleye and musky you drove over looking for those bronze carp

HA. I have to admit, my smallmouth history on Mille Lacs isn’t great and I usually end up trolling for walleye but this trip and the previous were good to me. And I’d rather catch a smallmouth than a walleye any day of the week.
