Sorry, wasn’t sure where the best place was to post this so it is a duplicate to what is in the Mille Lacs room as well.

    Good Morning-

I know that the big target of Mille Lacs over the past week has been walleye, but has anybody been out fishing smallies during the catch and release season? If so, has anybody had much success?

    Thanks.

I haven’t been out myself, but have received several good reports from friends who have been doing real well. On Sun. and Monday they were mostly catching prespawn fish in staging area’s. On Tues. and Wed. they reported that a fair amount of fish were starting to show up in shallow spawning area’s. My guess is with a few more days of warmer weather, spawning will be in full swing by the weekend. This would be a great weekend to get out there after them.

Hey, thank you very much for the quick reply. I am new to specifically targeting smallies so anything helps. When they are in the staging areas is it more of a tube/plastic bite or do cranks work better. A buddy (who is in the same new to smallie fishing position as I am) and I are heading up Sunday for the day and hoping to get into a few. Thanks again for the quick reply.

Side note, I also live in Savage, MN.

Go to the Mille Lacs update thread to get more info on smallies from opening weekend. Lots of info there.
